“I have found several, around 10 graves in a wooded area near my home. The property was to be developed but has been idle for the past year. How do you go about documenting the buried? I have seen a small headstone the reads, “”At Rest””. And there is a place marker from McLaurin Funeral Home of Durham. I would like to have this cemetery documented. Please help. Thank you.

The property is at the end of Lone Star Drive and across the street from a Church of Latter Day Saints.”

P.S

I wanted to give a correct address for the burial site in the woods. It is at the end of Silver Star Drive and Belgreen Road. In the woods across from the church. The church has no relationship to this property.

“WILKERSON family name; my great grandmother was Jennie Lee [DURHAM] WILKERSON. The WILKERSON side of the family is buried in cemeteries just outside Durham as well as in Maplewood Cemetery. I did not see the WILKERSON name on the surname list.

I am researching my family tree and also to learn which family members served in the Civil War; and, if their regiment was ever in Gettysburg (45 minutes away from where I live).

Also, I am trying to find out if there is any family connection between Jennie and Dr. Bartlett Leonidas Snipes DURHAM.
Thanks!”

I had three relatives on my Dad’s side of the family. Aunt Lona WIGGINS ALDRIDGE was a nurse lived in Durham NC yet her death (8/5/1973). Uncle Lan (Leonard Mclaren WIGGINS) died December 30,1970. And there was Uncle Joe (Joseph Barney WIGGINS). I read in some newspaper about Uncle Joe’s death. I believe the death is 12/24/1944- he was shot in a warehouse I believe article said. Now I can not find my source for the article.

My mother’s side of our family tree are the DURHAMS.  My grandmother was Ola Mae DURHAM; her mother was Mary DURHAM.  My understanding is that Bartlett Leonidas Snipes DURHAM is my first cousin, four times removed.  I would like to make contact with other DURHAMS in the Durham NC area.

Samuel and Sarah (Newyen) Merritt are my 5th great grandparents. I have them married 3 Feb 1792 in Orange County, NC. My question is about Sarah’s name. I cannot find the name Newyen anywhere else in the USA. Could her name have been misspelled or an error been made in transcription. Would love to track down her family.

“Greetings:

I am trying track the movement of my wife’s ancestor, Thomas CAMP.  According to family lore, he moved to the Orange County/Durham area around 1765 and possibly operated a mill in the area.  He and his large family migrated to Tryon County in 1775-1776 shortly after the conflicts in Alamance.    There are conflicting reports that he was a Loyalist and a Whig with neither giving any reliable confirmatory support.   I am trying to find information that positively places his family in Orange County and anything that might give answer to “”why”” he moved on to Tryon County.  Any suggestions of help would be greatly appreciated,

Alan”
