According to the 1900 Dare County census, James H. Pinner was born in Tyrrell Co., NC in Aug. 1830.  He died soon after that census was taken.  He married 3 times--1st to Sarah Basnight in Tyrrell Co. on Dec. 28, 1852.  No children are known from this marriage.  His 2nd marriage was to Mary Amanda "Mandie" Creef in Tyrrell Co. on Feb. 28, 1858 and to this union were born 3 children:
  1) John Benbury Pinner - b. Dec. 1858 Columbia, Tyrrell Co., NC  d. May 2, 1936 Columbia, NC; married Phoebe Ellen Creef at East Lake on Jan. 7, 1883
  2) Samuel Truitt Pinner - b. Jan. 1, 1870 [tombstone says 1871]  d. Sept. 18, 1953 Manteo, NC; married Mary Jane Twiford at East Lake on Jan. 21, 1894
  3) Joseph Henry Pinner - b. Feb. 1874 East Lake  d. after 1900

His 3rd and last marriage was to Mahala Creef at East Lake, Dare Co., on Nov. 5, 1874 and 5 children came from this union.
  1) Courtland Albert Pinner - b. Apr. 18, 1875 East Lake  d. June 11, 1950 Manteo; married Nora Elizabeth Rodgers at East Lake on Aug. 3, 1893
  2) William Sherman Pinner, Sr. - Dec. 6, 1876 East Lake  d. Aug. 5, 1936 [see tombstone]; married Evalina Duvall at East Lake on Jan. 6, 1901
  3) Nevada F. Pinner - b. May 19, 1879 East Lake  d. Dec. 19, 1967 Cincinnati, Hamilton Co., OH; married Margaret F. "Maggie" _____ c1915.  Nevada was the postmaster for Manns Harbor in 1900.  He and Maggie lived in Ft. Smith, Arkansas in 1920 and in the city of Norwood, Ohio in 1930.
  4) Colorado B. "Rado" Pinner - b. May 1883 East Lake  d. c1913; married Franklin Foster Creef at East Lake on Dec. 28, 1907
  5) Connie Waco Pinner - b. Jan. 27, 1888 East Lake  d. Aug. 19, 1975 Elizabeth City, Pasquotank Co., NC; married Alfred Sawyer
