John Pugh Midgett, son of Little Nichodemus Midgett & Efrica S. Meekins, was born in Rodanthe, NC on July 27, 1854 and died in Manns Harbor, NC on Sept. 2, 1903 [see tombstone].  He was first married to Bethany O'Neal at Chicamacomico, NC on Christmas Day 1872.  Bethany died between 1878-1880.  They had two children:

1. Dora M. Midgett b. May 5, 1873 & died Jan. 25, 1943 (see death certificate & tombstone in the Cox Cemetery)  She married James Benjamin Cox in Manns Harbor on Nov. 12, 1893.
2. Thomas O'Neal Midgett  b. Feb. 1878 & died ______; married Nora Ann Hooper on June 1, 1902

John Pugh Midgett married 2^nd on July 2, 1882 to Sarah Galveston Mann [see tombstone] and they had 9 known children.

   1. Peleg Spencer Midgett  b. Apr. 16, 1883 & died Nov. 15, 1933 in Virginia (see his tombstone); married Minnie Paxton Midgett on Oct. 12, 1902.
   2. Alexander Wilson Midgett  b. May 28, 1884 & died Sept. 9, 1935 (see death certificate & tombstone); married Neva Estelle Mann on Dec. 21, 1912.
   3. Eleanor W. Midgett  b. Sept. 20, 1885 & died Mar. 29, 1906; married Benj. Franklin Twiford on May 9, 1902.
   4. Oscar Seldon Midgett  b. Apr. 1, 1887 & died Dec. 23, 1923 (see death certificate & tombstone); married Rebecca Alexander O'Neal on Apr. 22, 1908.
   5. John Dammon Midgett  b. Aug. 4, 1888 & died before Oct. 1955; married 1^st Hattie Lizette Raper on Dec. 27, 1914; married 2^nd Mrs. J. Lillian Adams between 1924-1930.
   6. Vincent Guyton Midgett  b. Nov. 3, 1890 & died Nov. 10, 1961 (see death certificate & tombstone in Mt. Carmel Cemetery); married 1^st Maggie Gard on May 31, 1912; married 2^nd Erma Belle "Nannie" Tillett on July 30, 1928.
   7. Bertie Ersula Midgett  b. Mar. 25, 1892 & died Feb. 27, 1917 (see death certificate & tombstone in the Midgett Cemetery); married Jaccie Farrow Burrus, Sr. on Apr. 11, 1910.
   8. Louvinia Midgett  b. Aug. 28, 1893 & died Oct. 15, 1955 (see death certificate & tombstone in Old Hollywood Cemetery); married Charles Robert Hopkins, Sr. on Mar. 12, 1913.
   9. Little Nichodemus Midgett  b. Nov. 1898 & died Jan. 13, 1902

The Economist newspaper in Elizabeth City ran a small article on January 20, 1899 in which it said "Mr. J.P. Midgett, a leading merchant of Manns Harbor, has 11 stalwart children."  The same newspaper ran a death notice on Friday, September 11, 1903 that stated "Mr. John P. Midgett of Manns Harbor died at his home last Wednesday."
