John Evans Midgett


John Evans Midgett, son of Edward James Midgett & Alice (Barnett) Midgett, was born in Buxton on May 5, 1895 and died at Hatteras on Aug. 3, 1982.  John's 1917 World War I Draft Registration Card shows that he was single, was tall in height, had a medium build, blue eyes and light hair. At that time he worked for the E.I. DuPont Co. at Carney's Point, NJ as a munitions worker.  He married Oretha Williams Quidley in Buxton on June 8, 1921.  Oretha was the daughter of William Edward Quidley & Sabrah (Jennette) QuidleyOretha was born in Buxton on June 17, 1901 and died there on Sept. 27, 1932.  John & Oretha had three children:
   1) Clifton Evans Midgett (1923-1924)
   2) Amelita Lovell Midgett (1925- ____)
   3) Ronald Evans Midgett (1929- ____)

After Oretha's death in 1932, John Evans Midgett married Blanche Burrus Farrow (1909-2001) in Washington, Beaufort Co., NC on Dec. 28, 1937 and they had one child:

   1) Alice Rebecca Midgett (1944 - ____)

John signed his draft card as "Midgett" but the name is spelled "Midgette" in other records like his obituary which can be viewed here.
