Biography of Mathias Daniel Hayman
Aug. 5, 1868 - July 29, 1927

Mathias Daniel Hayman, son of Daniel Webster Hayman & Abigail Tillett, was born at Kitty Hawk on August 5, 1868.  He attended Dare County public schools and the Business School in Manteo in 1890.  He married Miss Zorado White Daniels in Skyco, NC on April 11, 1894.  According to census records, Mathias was a fisherman and farmer by trade and he and Zorado had five children who all grew up in Wanchese.  Mathias was a member of Wanchese Masonic Lodge #521 AF&AM and was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church in Wanchese.  He was a Democrat and a delegate from Dare County in 1925.  Mathias wrote is will just six months before he died of cancer of the lower lip on 1927.  He and Zorado are both buried in Cudworth Cemetery.  [Contact me if you have a photo of Mathias-- we'd love to add it to his bio.]
