 Claudius Cecil Austin was born in Hatteras on Feb. 22, 1887 to Levin Burrus Austin & Leah Gaskill. Claudius married Bessie E. Austin in Hatteras on June 15, 1910. Bessie was born to Benjamin Etheridge Austin & Margaret "Maggie" Smith on Apr. 1, 1889. They had 6 children: 1) Lance Bertram Austin (1911-1983) 2) Cecil Etheridge Austin (1912-1990) 3) Edna Rosalyn Austin (1915-2001) 4) Dallas Davis Austin (1918-1991) 5) Edith Austin (1919-2005) 6) Levin Jones Austin (1923-2007) Claudius died in Portsmouth, Va. on Jan. 22, 1965 and Bessie died in Portsmouth on Feb. 9, 1951. Both are buried in Olive Branch Cemetery in Portsmouth, Va.
