Wescott Cemetery - Manteo Airport

This cemetery is located at the Manteo Airport and is enclosed by a short white picket fence.  The stones are all lying flat and have been cemented in. The names in brackets are taken from In Memory Of by Lois Johnson Meekins & Amy Midgett Gamiel and were seen in 1995 when their survey was made.   Google Maps for directions.

Wescott, John Nov. 14, 1824 Nov. 10, 1884 [In the 1995 survey this gravestone was outside the fence at the north end of the cemetery]  This photo is part of the Talmadge Spence, Jr. family collection and is submitted by Sloan (Spence) Mason with permission granted.
Wescott, Lovie D. Sept. 24, 1831 May 6, 1902 Her obituary appeared in The Tar Heel on Friday, May 16, 1902 and read: DEATH OF MRS. WESCOTT - Mrs. Lovie D. Wescott, age 70 years, died at the home of her son, Capt. J.T. Wescott at Poyner's Hill on May 6th. She had been a sufferer for many years and had been confined to her bed over 7 weeks. She leaves two daughters, four sons, several grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Capt. J.T. Wescott and his brother, Robt. L. Wescott, and Mr. Grandberry Dowdy took her to Roanoke Island where she was interred in the family burying ground beside her husband. She was a member of the Baptist church.
