Davis Cemetery - Wanchese

From Hwy. 345 going into Wanchese, take Old Wharf Rd. and turn left on E.R. Daniels Rd. and then right on Davis Landing Rd.  The cemetery is on the left close to the edge of the road.  The cemetery is in bad shape and completely overgrown....it was much the same in  the 1994 survey, however, prior to that it had been cleared of all overgrowth.  The WPA surveyed this cemetery in 1937 and can be seen at http://digital.ncdcr.gov/cdm/compoundobject/collection/p15012coll1/id/35440 on pages 83 & 84.  (Researchers take caution--there are numerous errors in the WPA Records!)  The WPA listed numerous Davis' in this cemetery but a lot of them are now in Cudworth Cemetery.  Names & dates in brackets are taken from Sacred To Their Memory by Lois Johnson Meekins & Amy Midgett Gamiel; © 2001 or the WPA records.  This cemetery needs to be completely cleared before a proper photograph survey can be done again.
