Norris Baum Cemetery - Nags Head, NC

From Hwy. 158 in Nags Head take Ocean Drive to the west and go for 1.1 mile.  Then go right 0.1 mile and then walk northwest along an old road on a ridge for about 3/4 mile.  The graves are to the west side of the road.  Patrick Patterson took these photos in 2012.

Baum, David March 1845 February 3, 1923 [David was probably a black slave.  In 1900 David's birthdate is given as Mar. 1847 and he's a servant in the home of Isaac E. Tillett; in 1910 & 1920 he's living in the home of Jesse E. & Penelope (Tillett) Baum]
Baum, Jesse E. Oct. 4, 1859 Feb. 23, 1927 Father - Asleep in Jesus far from thee.  Thy kindred and their graves may be.  But thine is still a blessed sleep.  From which none ever wakes to weep.  [Jesse Etheridge Baum was the son of Norris H. & Nancy Baum.  Jesse married Penelope Ann Tillett in Nags Head on Aug. 14, 1879.

Baum, Norris H. Dec. 15, 1815 Oct. 12, 1879 [Norris Baum was the son of Azariah & Sarah (Midgett) Baum.  He married Nancy Gaylord c1847.  The 1880 Mortality Census shows that Norris' occupation was raising stock.  The cause of death was drowning.]
Baum, Penelope A. Apr. 8, 1861 Oct. 12, 1907 In Memory of - My soul is happy in Jesus, In whom I trusted until death. And gone to its home in Heaven, To be forever blest.  [Penelope Ann was the first child born to Isaac Irby Tillett, Jr. & his 1st wife Harriett Ann Mason.]
