    The Last Will and Testament of Col. John WOODHOUSE late of this County Deceased was in Open Court Exhibited, Proved and the Respective Executors Thereof Qualified in due form of Law. The said Will was ordered to be Recorded & Stands as Follows VIZ,

In the Name of God Amen, in the year of our Lord 1772 this 28th Day of July, I John WOODHOUSE of the County afsd being Very sick and Weak of Body but of Perfect mind & Memory thanks be to God for the Same Therefore Calling to mind that it is appointed for Man
once to die do make and ordain this my Last Will and Testament in Manner & forme as Followeth VIZ...

Principally and first of all I Give & Recommend my Soul to the Hands of Almighty god that first Gave it me Nothing Doubting but trusting in the merits of my Blessed Redeemer who Everliveth to make Intercession for us & is able to Save to the Utmost all that come unto God by him. As to my Body I Recommend it to the Earth from whence it was taken to be Buried in a Christain Like manner at the Discretion of my Executors Hereafter Named Nothing Doubting but to Receive by the mighty Power of God and Touching Such Worldly goods & Estate Wherewith it hath Pleased Almighty god to Bless me with I Give & Bequeath in the manner and form following

Item, I Give & bequeath to my son John WOODHOUSE my Plantation & Land Belonging thereto that lies Between the Land of Wm JARVES and Hilary WHITE known by the Name of Churches Island unto him & the Heirs of his Body Lawfully begotten forever. I also give unto my son John one Negro Wentch Named Hannah & one young Negro fellow Named Tom & three Negro Garls Named Plesant Vilet & Tamer and their increase and one Negro Boy Named Charles one Negro Fellow Named Benn and one Negro Boy Named Cuffy. I also Give unto my Son John all my stock of Cattle that is at or belongs unto the Plantation that I have already Given him & also Eight Head of Cattle Taken from the stock of Cattle that belongs to the Plantation where I now live. I also Give unto my two sons John & Lemuell WOODHOUSEe & to the heirs of their Bodys Lawfully Begotten forever my Land and Marsh Belonging thereto known by the Name of Poyners Island to be Equally divided Between them and the heirs of their Bodys Lawfully Begotten as afsd.

I also give unto my son John WOODHOUSE one Mahogany Case of Drawers & one Mahogany Desk known by being commonly Called myne & two Feather Beds and furniture. I also give unto my son John WOODHOUSE thirty three half ________ (illegible) & two hundred Dollars, my Will & Desire is that my Negro fellow Joney Should be sold by my Executors Hereafter Named and the Moneys Arising from this Sale to be Equally Divided between my afsd sons John & Lemuell WOODHOUSE. I also give my son John one Silver Tumbler.

Item, I Give and Bequeath unto my son Lemuell WOODHOUSE my Land and Plantation whereon I now live to him and the heirs of his Body Lawfully Begotten forever.  I also give unto my son Lemuell WOODHOUSE one Negro Wentch Named Jone and two Negro Girls Named Dye and Chaney & their Increase. Also two Negro Boys Named Ned and Will also one Negro fellow Named Sam and one Negro boy named Daniel.  I also give unto my son Lem’ll all my Stock of Cattle at Poyners Island Except four Cows and Calfs and all my Stock of Cattle that Belongs to the Plantation Whereon I now live Except Eight Head that I have Given out of them to my Son John.  I also Give unto my son Lemuell WOODHOUSE all my Land that Lieth on the Sand Banks and my will and Desire is that my stock of Cattle that runs the said Land at the Banks Should all Except two cows and Calfs be sold to be equally Divided Between my three children John & Lem’ll WOODHOUSE and Mary SAUNDERSON.

I also give unto my Son Lemuell WOODHOUSE one Cherry tree Chest of Drawers and one Mahogany Desk known by being Called his mothers & also two feather beds and furniture and two hundred dollars and one Silver Cup.

Item, I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Mary SAUNDERSON my Plantation and Lands belonging to it on the Ridge Lying between the land of Nathan POYNER and Thos. SIMMONS to her and her heirs lawfully begotten of her Body and all my stock of Cattle belonging to the said land and Plantation and four cows and calfs to be taken out of my Stock at Poyners Island & two Cows & Calfs to be taken out of my Stock at the Banks.  I also give unto my Daugher Mary SAUNDERSON one Negro fellow named Daniel and one Negro Wentch Named Jean and one Negro Boy Named Peter & one young Negro Wentch named Tugg (line repeated and then crossed through) one Negro Wentch named Rachell and one Negro Girl Named China.  I also Give unto my Daughter Mary one Mahogany Desk and two Feather Beds & Furniture and one Hundred Dollars.

Item, I give and bequeath unto Sarah CREEDLE Twenty Pounds Cash and my will and Desire is that if the said Sarah CREEDLE Should be Delivered of a Child which she is now Pregnant with That my Executors Shall advance as much of my Estate as will Purchase a Negro Girl and Give the Negro that is so Purchased to the Child.

Item. I Give all the Remainder part of my Estate Both within doors and without to my two sons John and Lem’ll WOODHOUSE to be Equally divided between them and my will and Desire is that if Either of my two sons John or Lemuell WOODHOUSE should die without Lawfull Issue begotten of their Bodys then the Part and Legacy of him that shall so Decease shall fall and be to his Brother and the heirs of his Body Lawfully begotten forever.

My will and Desire is that my Executors hereafter Named shall cause my son Lemuell to have learning Given him so far as will Qualify him for any Common Branch of Business & at least my Meaning is for him to have Extraordinary Good Learning & the Expense of Giving him Such to be Paid out of his Divident.

My Will and Desire is that my Trusty friend Sam’ll JARVISE JUNR. and my son John WOODHOUSE be and they are hereby left my whole & sole executors of this my Last will & Testament, utterly Disanulling all others. In testimony whereof I Have Hereunto affixed by seal the year and Day first above writen.
