Currituck Co. Will Book 3, pp. 52-53

In the name of God Amen.

And knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die, do make and ordain this my Last Will and Testament in manner and form as follows. February 25th 1815. And first of all I give to my well beloved Wife Febe STEPHENS one feather bed and furniture and one chest and one linen wheel and three pound of hackled flax and twenty yards of tow cloth chane and one sheep. Also the use of my hand mill during her widowhood and then to be delivered to my Son Thos STEPHENS. I also give to my Son Thomas STEPHENS one young horse called Jenus. I also give to my Son Willoughby STEPHENS one young mare called Diamond. I also give to my Daughter Polly STEPHENS, one feather bed and furniture, and one linen wheel and three pounds of hackled flax and one sheep and eighteen yards of two cloth and one small chest. And in case my Wife and two children Polley and Thomas STEPHENS keep house together, I am willing they should have as much of my corn and pork and bacon as may be thought sufficient to last them this present year and otherwise to be sold and the money divided between Polly STEPHENS and Thomas STEPHENS. An also my will and desire is that all the rest of my property within doors and with out, be sold and the money equally divided between my two children Polly and Thomas STEPHENS. And that my Son Thomas STEPHENS part after raising him may be put to the use of schooling him, after my debts being paid &c. I also nominate and appoint my well beloved Wife Febe STEPHENS and Davis FANCHER my whole and sole executors to this my Last Will and Testament. Whereunto I set my hand and seal day and date above written.
