The Last Will and Testament of Alexander SPEER decd. was exhibited in open court at November Term 1842 and proved by the oath of Joshua TAYLOR one of the subscribing evedences there to in due form ordered Registered and the Executor quallifyed.

   In the name of God Amen.

   I Alexander SPEER of the County of Currituck in the State of North Carolina, being of sound mind and memory thanks be to God do this the Twentyeth day of August in the year of our Lord one Thousand Eight Hundred and forty two make and publish this my last Will and Testament in manner following that is to say.

   Item 1  I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Chloe SPEER the following articles viz. one horse Barouch and harness three feather beds bed steads and furniture, half dozen silver spoons and three silver table spoons one beauro two mahogoney tables, half dozen stool chairs and one rocking chair, one eight day time piece one carpet one cart and two pine tables to her and her heirs for ever.

   Item 2  I give and bequeath unto my Son James SPEER the following articles viz. one horse sulkey and harness two feather beds bed steads and furniture one pair matress one eight day clock one book case and secretary all my books one half dozen silver tea spoons one pair silver sugar tongs three silver table spoons all my guns and pistols sword Cane, musical and surgical instruments medicine and fixturs two traveling trunks one mahogney brass mounted writing desk two carts one plough and harrow one pine table half dozen stool chairs and rocking arm chair one mahogney table one carpet also my gold watch guard chain seals and jewelry and all my clothing of all kinds unto him and his heirs for ever.   

   Item 3  I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Margaret SPEER of New Hanover County State of North Carolina Twenty five dollars out of my estate to be paid her or her guardian when called for.

   Item 4  I give and bequeath unto my Son James SPEER the land and plantation where on I now live to him and his heirs for ever.

   I will and desire that my wife Chloe SPEER take nor have any dower in the above named land and plantation bequeathed to my Son James SPEER and in consideration thereof I give and bequeath unto my wife Chloe SPEER one Hundred and sixty acres of land more or less in the back woods known and called the Trimagin TAYLOR land to her and her heirs for ever, provided she never claims dower in the above named home plantation given to my Son James SPEER, but in case she should dissent from this my last will and testament and take dower in the aforesaid home plantation there and in that case I give and bequeath the aforesaid land in the back woods known as the Trimagin TAYLOR land unto my Son James SPEER and his heirs for ever.

   Item  I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Chloe SPEER one years provision for her self and family out of my stock crops and provision to be set apart unto her by Samuel B. DOZIER, Peter PARKER and Jno. SIMMONS.

   Item  I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Chloe SPEER one half of the following negroes viz. old Jiney, young Jiney, Beck and her two children also one half of my notes, money constable receipts executions etc and also one half of my stock of all kinds and all other property of every description not given away unto her and her heirs for ever provided she does not claim dower in my home plantation bequeathed to my Son James SPEER.  Should she contend and obtain dower in the aforesaid land contrary to my will and desire then and in that case I give and bequeath unto her my beloved wife Chloe SPEER one third of the above named negroes money notes constable etc also one third of my stock of all kinds and other property to her and her heirs forever and no more and the other half or two thirds as the case may be of the aforesaid negroes namely old Jiney, young Jiney, Beck and her two children, notes money constable receipts executions and all my stock of all kinds and other property not given away I give and bequeath unto my Son James SPEER and his heirs and assigns forever.

   Lastly I nominate and appoint my friend Benjamin T. SIMMONS my hole and sole executor to this my Last Will and Testament revoking all other former wills here to fore made ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my Last Will & Testament.
