Currituck County Court - May Term 1857
    The annexed paper writing purporting to be the last will and testament of Alfred RITTER dec’d was exhibited in open court and the due execution thereof by the said Alfred RITTER is proved by the oaths and examination of Duren E. GARRETT & Silvester C. POWERS the subscribing witnesses thereto.  It is therefore considered by the court that the said paper writing and every part thereof is the last will and testament of the said Alfred RITTER and the same is ordered to be recorded & filed.

State of North Carolina
Currituck County the 10th day of Feby 1857

   I Alfred RITTER do this day make my last will and testament as to say:

   First I give all of my stock to my wife Cloe RITTER 2 head of horses 12 head of cale [cattle?], 25 hed of hogs, 7 stocks of bees by her paying my debts.  Also I give her one note against William A. POWERS of forty dollars with interest, one note against Robert WIGENTON of $12.00 with interest.  Also one note against James A. RITTER three dollars with interest.  Also $20.00 cash  in doors.  I lend to my wife Cloe the tract of land where I lived and at her decease I give said tract of land to my three children James A. RITTER and Barnibee A. RITTER and Lidea J. POWERS.

This being last will and testament and in full force of virtue.
