Malachi Read

Jan. 30, 1805 - June 12, 1805
Currituck Co. Will Book 2, pp. 272-273

In the name of God, Amen, I Malachi READ of Currituck County being at this present time weak in body and sick but of a disposing mind and memory and in perfect senses thanks be to Almighty God for this do make this my Last Will and Testament.

Item: I give and bequeath to my well beloved Wife Salley READ the use of the land and plantation, whereon I now dwell during her natural life or widowhood but if in case my said Wife should any time marry, then for to have the one third part of said land during her life.

Item: at the death or marriage of my Wife, I give and bequeath to my Son William READ the land and plantation whereon I now dwell containing two hundred and five acres of land more or less to him and his heirs forever.

Item: I give and bequeath to my said Wife Salley READ all my corn poark and hoggs lard also I give to my said Wife Salley READ all my personal estate including my Negroes to her during her natural life or widowhood, but if in case she shall at any time marry then for her to have the one third part of my Negroes during her natural life, and the one third part of my moveable estate I give to her and her heirs forever,

Item: I give and bequeath to my Son William READ one Negro boy called Affrica, after my Wifes death or marriage to him and his heirs forever.

Item: I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Betsey READ fifty acres of land being the land formerly the property of John WEST decd to her and her heirs forever.

Item: I give and bequeath to my Daughter Salley READ fifty acres of land being the land which my Father Will.. READ bought of Maximillian and Joseph MULDERS to her and her heirs forever.

Item: I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Nancy READ seventy five acres of land more or less lying in Princess Ann County to her and her heirs forever.

Lastly I leave all the remainder of my Negroes and moveable estate to be equally divided at my Wifes death or marriage as before mentioned between my three Daughters Betsey, Salley and Nancy and their heirs forever. But if in case my Wife should have a child in the course of nine months my will is that the said child should have an equal proportion of the legaicy  given to my three Daughters before mentioned to him or her and him or her heirs.

Lastly I nominate constitute and appoint my Wife Salley READ and my trusty friend Jeremiah PLUMMER, my whole and sole executors of this my Last Will and testament, reavoaking all other will or wills by me made ratifying and confirming this to be my Last Will and Testament and to the _____ I have hereunto set my hand fixed my seal this 30th day of January 1805
