Robert Poyner
April 5, 1854 - May Term 1854

I Robbert M. POYNER of the county of Currituck and State of North Carolina, being of sound mind and memory but considering the uncertainty of my earthly existence do make this my last will and testament in manner and form following, that is to say.

First - That my executor (hereinafter named) shall provide for my body a decent burial, and pay all funeral expences, together with my just debts, howsoever and to whomsoever owing out of the moneys that may first may come into his hands as a part or parcel of my estate.

Item - I give and devise to my beloved wife Sarah and her heirs forever all of my estate both real and personal after my Just debts are paid.  The real estate consisting all of the tact of land I now live on, containing fifty one acres more or less with all the building and appurtenances thereto belonging.  The personal estate consisting of one negro boy by the name of John about thirteen years old one horse and cart all the house hold and Kitchen furniture cattle and hogs corn fodder farming utentials Pork Bacon lard and all the poultry.

And lastly - I do constitute and appoint Caleb J. ETHERIDGE my lawful executor to all intents and purposes, to execute this my last will and testament according to the true intent and meaning of the same, and every part and clause thereof - hereby revoking all other wills and testaments may have been made by me heretofore.

In witness I the said Robbert M. POYNER do hereunto set my hand and seal this the 5th day of April one thousand eight hundred and fifty four.

Currituck County Court May Term 1854
    The within paper writing purporting to be the last will & Testament of Robert M. POYNER was exhibited for probate in open Court by Caleb J. ETHERIDGE the Executor therein named and the due Execution thereof by the said Robert M. POYNER is proved by the oaths and examination of George M. PARSONS & George W. BELL the subscribing witnesses thereto.  It is therefore considered by the Court that the said paper writing and every part thereof is the last will and testament of the said  Robert M. POYNER & the same is ordered to be Recorded & filed.  And thereupon the said C.J. ETHERIDGE Executor as aforesaid duly qualified as such, by taking the oath required by law.
