   I Alfred PERKINS of the County of Currituck and State of N Carolina being of sound disposing mind and memory do on this the 25th day of March in the year of our Lord Eighteen Hundred and Fifty Six make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following”

   First I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Lovey PERKINS the plantation on which I live containing about one hundred and sixty acres, negros Jim, Billy, Willis, Joe, Albert, Ailiff and her two children Henry & Amelia, Jinny and her boy and Miles. All my household and kitchen furniture all my farming utensils with exception of a camylog horse power and wheat machine ox and horse carts (after she has taken one oxcart and two horse carts) one yoke of oxen her choice, two cows and calves her choice, all my sheep, all my hogs, three horses or mules her choice, one rockaway and harness two hundred barrels of corn, all my long forage, negro Harriet and her three children and all the woodland situate on the Corner Gum farm on each side of the main road north of Solomon ASHBEEs for the purpose of furnishing the farm already given her with firewood and rail timber the whole of the foregoing…..I give and bequeath to my beloved wife and to her heirs forever.

   Secondly I give an bequeath to Molly FROST my Skillet Handle farm containing about one hundred and forty five acres provided she has an heir begotten of her body and provided she is willing to release my estate from any amount I may owe her as guardian but if she has no heir begotten of her body at her death I give and bequeath the foregoing property to her two brothers Thomas FROST and Alfred FROST to them and their heirs forever.

  Thirdly I give and bequeath to Alfred FROST so much of my Corner Gum farm as is not given away to my wife and so much of it as is not cut off from the farm by Caleb BELLs lead ditch to him and his heirs forever. I also give said Alfred FROST negro boy Alfred to him and his heirs forever.

   Fourthly I give and bequeath to Thomas FROST the BIGGS farm together with the piece I purchased of Caleb J. ETHERIDGE adjoining it and also the piece of land adjoining it that was separated from the Corner Gum farm by Caleb BELLs lead ditch to him and his heirs forever.

   Fifthly I give and bequeath to John FROST negro boy Haywood to him & his heirs forever.

   Sixthly I leave negros Tom, Tatum, Lydia, Jane, Eliza and all her children to be sold by my executors on a credit of six months with interest from date and the fund arising from the sale thereof together with the money and notes I may leave I want applied to the payment of my just debt and the deficiency I want made up by hiring out negros Willoughby, Billy, Cuffee, Major, George and Edward as long as may be necessary.

   Seventhly After the payment of my just debts I give to Willoughby McBRIDE the negros above directed to be hired out to wit Willoughby, Billy, Cuffee, Major, George & Edward to him and his heirs forever.

   Eightly I give and bequeath to Mary PARR orphan of David PARR the sum of three hundred dollars, with interest on the same from the date of the deed to Arthur GREGORY for land I purchased of her Father.

   Ninthly I leave the house now used as a Schoolhouse near the Baptist Church to be moved by my executors at the expense of my estate upon the Skillet Handle farm for the use of the same and the land it is now on I give and bequeath to Doct. Henry M. SHAW provided he pays thirty dollars to my estate.

   Lastly I nominate and appoint Doct. H. M. SHAW executor to this my last will and testament In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal the day and date first written.

   Having omitted giving away the piece of land I purchased of Isaac N. BAXTER on which Wm. McBRIDE now lives in the foregoing will I give and bequeath the same to Burwell M. BAXTER in trust for Loby McBRIDE to him and his heirs forever.  In witness whereof I have set my hand and affixed my seal the day and date first above written.

Currituck County Court - May Term 1857
   The transcript of the record in the case of Henry M. SHAW alleged executor of Alfred PERKINS and others

   John A. MOORE & wife & others together with the original will is returned into court with a pocedeudo from the Superior Court of Law of this County setting forth that the paper writing propounded is the Last Will & Testament of ALFRED PERKINS deceased and direting pocedeudo according to law, It is therefore considered by the court that said paper writing be and it is hereby admitted to probate as the last will & testament of Alfred PERKINS passing realty & personalty let the proceedings certified from the Superior Court be recorded on the minutes.
