In the name of God Amen, I Jeremiah MERCER SEN., of Currituck County and State of N. Carolina, being weak and sick in body but of sound memory, do make this my Last Will and testament First I bequeath my soul to Almighty God who gave it and my body to be burried in a decent manner at the desircasion of my executors here- after named, that is to say,

first I give and bequeath to my Son Thomas MERCER one shilling together with what he has already recd. to him and his heirs for ever.

Item I give and bequeath to Daughter Sally BAXTERs children one shilling to them and their heirs forever.

Item I give and bequeath to my Daughter Ruth CHOREY one shilling to her and her heirs forever.

Item I give and bequeath to my Son Jeremiah MERCER all my land which I have heretofore given him to him and his heirs forever, one hand mill, and also one hand mill in the hands of Elizabeth ETHERIDGE to him and his heirs for ever.

Item I give and bequeath to my beloved Wife Wineford MERCER one cow and calf and one feather fed and furniture one negro man named Jack during her natural life and after her decease to my Daughter Elizabeth JARVES to her and her heirs for ever.

Item I give and bequeath to my Son Jeremiah MERCER one young horse caled Rogue to him and his heirs forever.

Item I give and bequeath to my Daughter Wineford CHATTAM one note of hand due from Thomas HARRIS for one young horse for twenty one pounds ten shillings or the horse if returned to her and her heirs forever.

Item I give and bequeath to my Daughter Polly WHITEHURS one shilling together with what she has already received to her and her heirs forever.

Item I give and bequeath to my Daughter Elizabeth JARVIS all the rest of my estate which I have not already given away (except one cow and calf which I have given to my Grand Daughter Wineford JARVIS) to her and her heirs forever----after my just debts, funeral expense etc. are paid.

and my will desire is that my bay horse Traveller shod stay on the plantation for the use of my Wife during her natural life.

Item I make constitute and appoint my Son Jeremiah MERCER and my friend Joseph FEREBEE and Sol. ALCOCK whole and sole executors of this my Last Will and Testament in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this 14th day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety six---1796
