In the name of God Amen.

I William MEARNS of the County & Parish of Currituck in the Province of North Carolina attorney at law being now in perfect health sound & disposing memory but calling to mind the certainty of death & the uncertainty of the time it may happen do therefore make ordain this my Last Will and Testament in manner following:

Imprimis: I give & bequeath unto my Wife Dorothy Five Pounds Proclamation money and no more.

Item: I give & bequeath unto my Son William Skipwith MEARNS Twenty Shillings Proclamation money and no more.

Item: I give devise & bequeath unto my friend Mr. Neill SNODGRASS Merchant in Norfolk County, Virginia all the rest & residue of my estate of what kind in Quantity soever or wheresoever to be found after the payment of my debts & legacies.

Lastly I do hereby constitute & appoint the above named Mr. Neill SNODGRASS whole & sole executor of this my Last Will and Testament. In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & affixed my seal this Fifteenth Day of April in the year of our Lord Christ One Thousand Seven Hundred & Sixty Nine.

Signed, Sealed, published and declared by me Testator as my Last Will and Testament in presence of the subscribing witnesses, who at my request & in my presence have subscribed their names hereunto as Witnesses of the same:

April 26th 1771 - The Will and Testament of William MEARNS deceased was exhibited by Neill SNODGRASS the executor named in the same and proved by the oaths of Sol. PERKINS & John SIMMONS two of the subscribing witnesses the executor took the oath by law prescribed for his Qualifications ordered that it be registered and that the Secretary have ?????
