Currituck Co. Will Book 3, p. 109

In the name of God. Amen. I Burroughs MATHIAS of the County of Currituck, and State of North Carolina, being sick in body, of sound mind and memory, do make declare and publish this my Last Will and Testament, in manner following. Viz.

Item. Its my will and desire that all my just debts be paid as soon after my death as may be.

Item. I lend unto my Wife Chloe the use of the whole of my estate during her widowhood after paying my just debts with the proviso that she keep and raise my children free from charges.

Item. I give unto my Son John MATTHIAS the whole of my swamp land, unto him and his heirs forever and after the death of my wife Chloe, its my will that what remains of my personal estate be equally divided between my three youngest children, namely Abi, Simon and William.

I nominate my wife Chloe and my Son Hillary my whole and sole executors of this my Last Will and Testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the 23d October in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred and eighteen.
