Cornelius Jones of Albemarle Co., NC
May 18, 1714 - Jan. 17, 1715

[This will had three creases in it where it had been folded.  Some parts around the creases were missing, smudged or too light to read.  I have indicated this with blank lines.]

In the name of God amen the Eighteth day of May in the yeare of our Lord o__ thousand Seven Hundred and fourteen

I Cornelius JONES in the County of Albamarl North Carolina Jentleman, being in perfict health of body Minde and Memorey Thanks be given unto god.  Therefore Calling to Mind the M_tality of my body: And Knowing that it is apointed for men once to dye, do Make and ordain this my Last Will and Testame__ (That is to Say) principally and first of all, I Give and recommend My Soul into the hands of god that gave it hoping through the Meri___ Death and passion of my Saviour J_sus Christ, to Goue? free? and ____ pardon and forgiveness of all my Sins and to inherit E____g Life and my body & Committ to ____ earth to bee decently buried at ye att the (sic) Discretion of my Executor hereafter named, Nothing _oubting but at the Genarall Resurrection, I Shall receive the Same again by the mighty power of god.  And as touching Such Worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me in this Life I Give, _____ and dispose of ye Same in the following Manner and form: __at is to Say ----

Imprimis --- I Will that all those Depts and duties as i do owe ________ of Con____? to ___ manner of person or persons whatsoever I ____ Well and truly Contented & paid or ordered to be paid in Convenie__ time after my decease by my Executor hereafter named ----

Item  I will? & bequeath to my well beloved Son Cornelius JONES and unto his hairs Lawfully begotten of their body and to my Loveing daughter Elizebeth JONES and her hairs Lawfully begotten of her body four ____ there heires for ever Apiece of Land out of the? tract Commonly Called James ROBINSONs.  (The said plantation begins att a _______________ up ye Roade [the rest is unreadable] To be equally devided between my Son & daughter Cornelius JONES & Elizebeth JONES My Son to begin att HAWKINS? Line and run Eaqelay? to the old plantation for his breadth.  I alsoe Give unto my Daughter Elizebeth JONES ___________ Called ___ah and her increase _______________When she Comes of age or meried without eny Charge and also Six _________ And a bull one Iorn pott one bowl five Galln and one Mare ----

Item  I doe Give and bequeath unto my Loveing Daughter Ann JONES and unto her heirs Lawfully begotten of her body for Ever a piece of Land (out of the Tract Called ROBINSONs) all the Land on ye East Side __ the plan______ Called the Water Mille on ___eth Walnutt Tree Neck and _____dance,  I doe also Give unto my daughter Ann a Negro Girl C___ed Moll and Two young Cows and a bull one iorn pott a bowl five Gallone and one Mare ----

Item  I dow Give and bequeath unto my Son Cornelius JONES My Girle ______.  I also Give him ten Cows and a bull and a Mare and a horse and my gun and Cain one Iorn pott about five Gallons and my Mill on___ my wife to have ye use of itt dureing her Naturall Life ----

Item  I doe Give and bequeath unto my Loveing Wife Elizebeth JONES my plantation with all the house______  __ening and all and every ____ appertenances and Land whereon I now dwell and to her _____ ___ Ever ----

Item  I doe Give and bequeath unto my Three Children Cor______ Elizebeth & Ann JONES _______ Island and to their hairs for Ever and in Case thay or other th___ ____ a mind to Sell or dispose of this Land or Island, to Sell itT to each other or nott to dispose.  I also ____ to my Loveing wife the priviledge of _____ing a Stock of Cattle & hogs and horses dureing her Naturall Life----

Item  I doe ______ all ye increase of Negro B______ to my Son Cornelius JONES Except ___ ___ ye Negros  ___________ my daughters? Coming _________________ to them _________ their portion to be made equal of ye increase belonging [rest of item is unreadable].

_____ _________ my Son Cornelius JONES ______________ tract of the Ridge thats Leased? out to Joseph HARISON [next few words unreadable] if ye Negro Woman __ide Should happen to have a ___ then I Give and bequeath itt to ye child that may Come _______ ____ if nott to Return to my Son Cornelius JONES ----

Item  In Case ether of my three Children Should dye before the____ ______ come to age or Married then I doe Give unto the Survivoirs or Survivour of each thats either Elizebeth Ann or Cornelius _____ the portion or portions that I have Given to them by on equell to? wife?.

Lastly - I doe apoint my Loveing wife Elizebeth JONES my whole ___ Sole Executrix of this my Last _ill and testament Revocking and Disanulling all and every will or wills heretofore by me Ratifying and Confirming this and noe other to be my Last will and Testement In Wittnes whereof I have hereun__ Sett my hand and Seal the day and years above Written----

This day appeared before me John BLISH of Pasquotank Mercht & made Oath on ye Holy Evangelists that he Saw Mr. Cornelius JONES deceasd Sign Seal & delevir within to be his ___ & deed & likewise saw ye within Frances HARRISON & William VAUGHAN Sign as Evidences to sd Will I my self Signing for Frances HARRISON.  She makeing her marke.
