January 27th 1925

I Pierce HAMPTON hereby leave all my property real and personal to my Wife Virginia HAMPTON with the following exceptions.

I desire to leave to my daughter Bernie S. GRIGGS the sum of twenty five ($25.00).

I desire that my son in law Russell A. GRIGGS shall have my interest in all farm implements and tools in the premises known as Hampton Lodge.

I hereby appoint my daughter Bernie S. GRIGGS sole executrix.

This is my Last Will.

In the matter of the Will of Pierce HAMPTON, Deceased. The paper-writing hereto attached and purporting to be the last will an testament of Pierce HAMPTON deceased, is exhibited before the undersigned Clerk of the Superior Court of Currituck County, North Carolina, by Bernie S. GRIGGS, the executrix therein named, and thereupon the following proof thereof is taken by the oath and examination of W. C. ROSS and G. W. TWIFORD, the subscribing witnesses thereto as follows:

 

North Carolina, Currituck County

    W.C. ROSS and G.W. TWIFORD being duly sworn, depose and say, and each for himself deposes and says, that he is a subscribing witness to the said paper-writing now shown him, purporting to be the last will and testament of Pierce HAMPTON, and that he saw him execute (or heard acknowledge the execution of) this writing as his last will and testament, and that affiant attested it in the presence and at the request of said Pierce HAMPTON deceased: and that at the time of its execution (or at the time its execution was acknowledged) said Pierce HAMPTON was, in affiant’s opinion, of sound mind and disposing memory.

    Severally subscribed and sworn to before me this 7th day of June 1926.

    And thereupon it is considered and adjudged by the Court that the said paper-writing and every part thereof is the last will and testament of Pierce HAMPTON, deceased, and it is ordered that the same, with the foregoing examination and this certificate, be recorded and filed.  This 7th day of June 1926.
