I, Samuel ETHERIDGE of said State and County, being of sound mind and memory, do make, publish and declare, this as my last will and testament, in manner and form as follows -

1st Item - After the payment of my just debts and liabilities by my executrix hereinafter named, I give and bequeath unto my wife Ann Susan ETHERIDGE all my personal and chattle property to be to her sole use and benefit.

2nd Item - I loan to my wife Ann Susan during here lifetime, all my landed property situated in Broad-Neck lane in Currituck County consisting of two pieces, for bounds, see Record of Land in Register's offices of Currituck County.

3rd Item - Upon the decease of my said wife Ann Susan ETHERIDGE, I give and bequeath to Samuel Etheridge GUARD, a child of Bannister GUARD of this county, and Sally Etheridge WATERFIELD daughter of William H. WATERFIELD of Currituck County, the landed property herein mentioned, with all the improvements thereon, to their use and benefit forever, in case of the death of either the property to go to the survivor, be it he or she.

Lastly - I nominate my wife Ann Susan ETHERIDGE, to be executrix of this my last will & testament, and direct that she gives to Decatur [Etheridge had been written in for the last name then a darker name had been written over it which looks somewhat like "Perry" but I really can't say for sure] a boy? [this word could be "bay" but looks like "boy"] I have raised, a bed when in her judgement she thinks he is in need of it.
    In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal this 22nd day of July 1885.
