In the name of God Amen

I Sampson ETHERIDGE of Currituck county and State of North Carolina, being in good health and of sound mind and memory, and of free disposing intellectual faculties, but calling to mind the uncertainty of life and certainty of death, do make and publish this my last will and testiment in the manner and form following , that is to say, first of all I recommend my soul into the hands of the Almighty God, and my body to the ground to be burried in a decent manner at the discretion of my executor, and as touching what worldy goods it hath pleased gods to blefs me with , I dispose of as follows. Viz.

Item 1st  I give unto my grandson Nathaniel MURREL fifty acres of land to be laid off on the north west end of my land, including his house and plantation: Also I give my grandson Nathaniel MURRIEL two hundred silver dollars.

Item 2d  I give unto my son Sampson ETHERIDGE one negro boy called George.

Item 3d  I give unto my daughter Anny CHAPLIN one negro girl called Grace and a girl called Silva to her and her heirs , but if my daughter Anny should die without lawful heir of her own body, the two girls Silva and Grace are to be equally divided among all my children.

Item 4th  I give unto my three grand children, namely, William MELSON, Sampson MELSON and Elijah MELSON the three following negros, viz. To William MELSON I give one negro girl called Bets, To Sampson MELSON I give my girl Sall, To Elijah MELSON I give my boy Dick.

Item 5th  All the remainder of my estate consisting of land in possession of John MURREL, my negros not before mentioned , my stock, household goods all my property of every description I leave to be sold on twelve months credit, and the money arising from the sale be divided into five shares, one of the shares I give to my son Sampson ETHERIDGE, the 2 share I give to Nathanial MURRIEL, the 3d share I give to my daughter Anny CHAPLIN, and the 4th share I give to my daughter Peggy MURRIEL, and the 5th share, I give to my three grand children, William, Sampson and Elijah MELSON to be equally divided between them.

Last of all I nominate, constitute and fully appoint my son Sampson ETHERIGE my whole and sole executor, to this my last will and testiment.  In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 3d day of August 1815.
