In the name of God Amen, I James ETHERIDGE SEN. of the County of Currituck and State of North Carolina being weak of body but of sound disposing mind and memory blessd be the Almighty God for it, I doe make and ordain this my Last Will and Testament as followeth,
First that is to say I recommend my soul to Allmighty God that gave it me and my body to be desently buried in a place where it should please my executors hereafter named but as to what estate it hath been pleased God to bestow me I give and dispose in manner as followeth-----

Item: I give and bequeath unto my Son Josiah the land and plantation where I now live containing fifty acres more or less to him and his heirs forever.-----

I also give to my Sd Son Josiah seventy one acres of land new entry joining the afsd land I now live upon to him and his heirs forever.

I also give to my Sd Son Josiah my negroe boy called Charles to him and his heirs forever.

I also give to my Sd Son Josiah one hand mill I bought of Solomon JARVES and all my cider cask and two cows and calves, and my black horse called Teague and my best sadle and bridle and one feather bed and bolster, and two sheets and one blankett and one rug and bedshad and one iron pott his choice of them to him and his heirs forever.

Item: I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Uphan one negroe woman Rose and her child she is now big with to her and her forever. I also give to my afd Daughter Uphan two cows and calves and one feather bed and bolster and two sheets one blankett and one rug and one iron pott the neaxt choice and one linning wheel which is calld hers to her and her heirs forever.

Item: I give to my two Daughters Uphan and Linner my side sadle and my lamb and all the tacking belonging to it to be equally divided between them to them and their heirs forever.

Item: I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Linner one negroe girl calld Jude to her and her heirs forever. I also give to my said Daughter Linner one feather bed and bolster two sheets one blankett and rug and bed stead and two cows and calves her choice and one mare colt called Flower to her and her heirs forever and also I give to my Daughter Linner thirty pounds in hard money silver dollars and eight shillings or the valu thereof in other coin to be raised out of my estate to her and heirs forever.

I also give to my Daughter Linner one iron pott her next choice and one linnen wheel which is commonly called hers to her and her heirs forever.

I also give to my Daughter Uphan one bed stead to her and her heirs forever.

Item I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Sarah SIMMONS my negroe man Ishmeal to her and her heirs forever, I also give to my Daughter Sarah SIMMONS one bed and what furniture is in her possession and one iron pott that is her possession and two cows and calves to her and her heirs forever, and also I give to my Daughter Sarah SIMMONS one side sadle which she has in her possession to her and her heirs forever-----

I also give unto my Son Josiah five stocks of bees his firs choice to him and his heirs forever. Also after all my lawfull debts and charges of setling my estate is paid , I give the remainder of my perrishable part of my estate which is not to fore mentioned in this will to be equally divided between my Daughters To wit. Uphan ETHERIDGE, Sarah SIMMONS, Linner ETHERIDGE to them and their heirs forever.

I also appoint my four friends Willis ETHERIDGE, John BIGGS Willoughby DAUGE, James(?) DAUGE or a majority of them to divide and settle my estate amongst my children according to this my Last Will and Testament or the law shall requir----

I also constitute and appoint my Son Josiah ETHERIDGE and Uphan ETHERIDGE my hole and sole executors of this my Last Will and Testament to see all my business settled according to this my Last Will as the law shall requir ------ as witness my hand and seal this 9th day of February Anno Dom 1782.
