   In the name of God Amen I Charlotte DOWDY of the County of Currituck State of North Carolina being of sound and perfect mind and memory blessed be God, do this the tenth day of Sept. in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred & fifty five make and publish this my last will and testament in manner following that is to say:

   I give to be sold ten acres of my land for the better support & maintenance of my youngest child namely Epaminondas then I give and bequeath to my three children equally namely Liondas DOWDY, Theodore DOWDY & Epaminondas DOWDY the remainder part of my land where I now live to be equally divided after my debts is paid

   Then I give and bequeath to my daughter Lorendy DOWDY my best bed and furniture one mahogany table one bureau & glass, then the balance of my chattle property not named to be sold and my just debts paid the balance if any to be equally divided between Lorendy DOWDY, Theodore DOWDY, & Epaminondas DOWDY.

   And I hereby make and ordain my worthy friend Mr. Wm. W. CHADDIC executor of this my last will and testament in witness whereof I the said Charlotte DOWDY have this my last will and testament set my hand & seal the day and year above written.
