The Last Will and Testament of Edney BELL dec’d. was exhibited in open court at August Term 1846 and the execution of the same proved by the oaths of Samuel FEREBEE JR. and James FULFORD subscribing witnesses to the same ordered recorded.

    Currituck County     }

   In the name of God Amen, I Edney BELL being in bad health but in sound mind and memory and being convinced of the mortality of mankind do make and declare this instrument to be my last will and Testament as follows viz.

   Item 1  I give unto my two Sons Caleb and Branson BELL all of my rights and titles in the lands that I hold which was given off to me as my thirds in each of their lands as will show etc by the lines to them and their heirs.

   Item 2  It is my wish that all of my negroes be valued and then drawn for by my children to wit: Liner MORSE, Sally NASH, Polly MATHIAS, Betsey SNOWDEN, Caleb BELL, Branson BELL and Edney MUNDANE.(it is to be understood that I don’t give any of my property to my Daughter Edney MUNDANE but lend her the use of it as I shall hereafter name etc.)

   Item 3  It is my will that all of my household furniture be sold and equally divided between my Daughters to wit: Leonar MORSE, Sally NASH, Polly MATHIAS, Betsey SNOWDEN, and Edney MUNDANE to them and their heirs forever.

   Item 4  It is my will that all the residue of my estate to be sold such as horse, cattle, hogs, sheep, corn, kitchen furniture etc in fact all and of every kind and for the said notes to be applied to the making of the division equal in the negroes so as for each child to have an equal share as near as can be estimated.

   Item 5 I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Susan FLORAHs heirs (to wit) Polly DOZIER, Betsey BAXTER, Susan and Dennis FLORAH one dollar each which is all that I intend giving them.

   Item 6  It is my wish as I have state above that none of my property to be given to Edney MUNDANE but that the part that I would wish her to have it is my will that my Son Caleb BELL to take the negroe or negroes & notes if any in his hands and deal it out to her as he sees she has need and if the said Thomas MUNDANE should die before my Daughter Edney then for my Son Caleb BELL to give the property that he has in hand for my Daughter Edney up to her, but if she Edney MUNDANE should die before the said Thomas MUNDANE then the said property to be kept for her children to rais etc. etc.

   Item 7  It is my wish that my Sons Caleb and Branson BELL to settle my estate agreeable to the gifts etc. given under my hand and the 9th of Novr. 1843
