In the name of God Amen, I Grandy BARNARD of the County of Currituck and State of North Carolina being of sound disposing mind and memory do on this the 22nd day of March eighteen hundred and forty seven make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form following to wit:

   First I lend to Fanny BARNARD negro woman Mary her youngest child Zudar? and her son Tom during her natural life.  I also lend to said Fanny BARNARD during her natural life the house in which she now lives also the outhouses and the lot of land enclosed surrounding them.

   Second I give and bequeath to Fanny BARNARD aforesaid all her household and kitchen furniture, my gray filla and a years provision to be laid off by my executor to her and her heirs forever.

   Third To my children Lucinda BARNARD, Btsey BARNARD and Ann BARNARD children of Fanny BARNARD, I lend the whole of my estate gether with all I may accumulate by birth or purchase and all loaned to their Mother during their natural lives and at their deaths, I give and bequeath the same to their heirs begotten of their bodies with this understanding if either dies childless the property of such shall descend to the survivor or survivors under the conditions before expressed.

   Fourth I nominate and appoint G.C. MARCHANT to this my last will and Testament and Testamentary Guardian to my three children before mentioned Lucinda BARNARD, Betsey BARNARD and Ann BARNARD children of Fanny BARNARD.  In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal the day and date above written.

   The annexed paper writing is produced in open court, and on the verdict of the jury (for which see minutes) the same is ordered adjudged and decreed to be admitted to probate and the same is hereby admitted to probate as the last will and testament of Grandy BARNARD deceased passing both personal real and mixed property.
