In the name of God Amen, I Elisabeth ASHBY Widow of Roanoak Island in the County of Currituck and State of N. Carolina being at present in a low state of health but of sound mind and memory Therefore calling to mind the mortality of ye body and knowing that all flesh must submit unto death and that it is appointed for all persons once to die do ordain this my Last Will and Testament in manner and form following that is to say principally and first of all I recommend my soul into ye hands of God that gave it and my body to ye earth to be buried in decent christian burial at the descretion of my executors, And as touching such worldly goods as it hath benn pleas God to bless me with, I give and dispose of in manner and form following.

Imprimis: My desire and will is that all my just debts be honestly paid with my funeral charges.

Item: I give and bequeath unto my Son Abel ASHBY, one brown cow and calf and her increase at my decease.

Item: I give and bequeath unto my Son Solomon ASHBY one blue chest, one cow and calf and their increase one large brass kittle, two ewes, one large case one pewter pot, one pair fire dogs at my decease.

Item: I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Keziah ETHERIDGE one small brass kittle, one pair of stillards, one hakkle, one mare, one arm'd chair at my decease.

Item: I give and bequeath to my Grand Daughter Elisabeth CHAPLAIN one brindle cow and calf and her increase and one steer at my decease.

Item: I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Elisabeth ASHBY one negro woman named Esther and her increase one negro boy called Toney, two feather bed and furniture, two bedsteads, one box iron, one loom and flax all my wooden ware and all my earthen ware, two tables, one chest, one trunk, two linnen wheels, my chairs that are not given, one small case, one woolen wheel, one spider, one benacle, one heifer and his increase, seven pewter plates, three dishes, three pewter basons or poinger, one 1/2 pint pot with all other articles unto me belonging not already given I give unto the afsd. Elisabeth ASHBY at my decease.

Item: lastly I apoint constitute and ordain my Son Solomon ASHBY with my Daughter Elisabeth ASHBY executor and executrix to this my Last Will and Testament and do hereby disalow revoke and disanul all other wills confirming this and no other to be my Last Will and Testament in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this eighth day of Febuary Ano domini 1782
