Currituck County Wills

Caleb Ansell, Sr.
June 22, 1862 - February Term 1866

In the name of God Amen.  I Caleb ANSELL, SR. of the County of Currituck and State of North Carolina being of sound and disposing mind do make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form as follows --

Item 1st I give and bequeath to my son Caleb ANSELL, JR. all of the woodland and portion of the cleared land laying upon the east side of my farm which is marked off and posted to him and his heirs forever.

Item 2nd I give and bequeath to my two youngest daughters Eliza A.H. ANSELL and Mary E.H. ANSELL one bed and furniture each one chist each and also the ballance of my farm on which I reside to be equally divided North and South after the death of my wife Mary ANSELL to them and their heirs forever.

Item 3rd After my just and lawfull debts is paid I lend the ballance of my property real and personal to my wife Mary ANSELL during her life time and after her death I leave all of my personal property to be sold and the proceeds I give and bequeath to my daughter Marium COOPER to her and her heirs forever.

Lastly I nominate constitute and appoint my wife Mary ANSELL Executrix to this my last will and testament revoking all former wills by me made in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and caused my seal to be affixed this the 22nd day of June 1862.

     Currituck County        }    February Term A.D. 1866

A paper writing purporting to be the last will and testament of Caleb ANSELL deceased is exhibited for probate in open court by Mary ANSELL the executrix therein named and the due execution thereof to the said Caleb ANSELL is proved by the oaths of Caleb W. BEASLEY and E.W. JONES the subscribing witnesses thereto.  It is therefore considered by the court that the said paper writing and every part thereof is the last will and testament of the said Caleb ANSELL and the same is ordered to be recorded and filed.  And thereupon the said Mary ANSELL, executrix as aforesaid, duly qualified as such by taking the oath required by law and giving bond as security.
