William Simpson Wealthy (Caffee) Simpson

William Simpson, son of John Simpson & Elizabeth "Betsy" ________, was born Jan. 1838 and died Dec. 12, 1903.  He married Wealthy Ann Caffee, born in Jan. 1834 to James D. Caffee & Affie Dowdy.  She died Nov. 12, 1900.  William married Wealthy on June 23, 1859 and to them were born the following children:
   1. Matilda Jane Simpson - b. 1861  d. 1933*  Married: Levi M. Morrissette
   2. Josephine D. Simpson - b. Oct. 16, 1865  d. June 26, 1947  Married: Haywood Boyd Crain
   3. Mary Frances Simpson - b. Nov. 16, 1867  d. June 7, 1945  Married 1st: Dempsey Jones  Married     2nd: J.N. Pugh
   4. Charles Henry Simpson - b. Oct. 16, 1869  d. Oct. 12, 1941  Married: Patty L. Baum
   5. George VanSlyck** Simpson - b. Jan. 14, 1875  d. Nov. 18, 1961  Married: Mary Alice Smith
   6. William Henry Simpson - b. c.1877   d. after 1880 but probably at a young age 

*The Morrisette Family Bible shows Matilda Jane Morrisette died March 19, 1935 but her tombstone shows she died 1933.
**George was unable to spell "Vanslyck" and always signed his name "George V. Simpson".   When delayed birth records were required, he changed his middle name to "Vernon".


William Simpson (left) and his brother Zachariah Simpson, sons of John & Elizabeth "Betsy"  Simpson.  Zachariah was born in July 1850 and died in July 1936.  Both William and Zachariah are buried in the Simpson Cemetery at Waterview Shores in Poplar Branch Twp. of Currituck County.

George V. Simpson, son of William Simpson and Wealthy Ann Caffee, married Mary Alice Smith, daughter of Dempsey W. Smith [see his photo & information here] and Melissa Hampton, on June 17, 1896 and they had the following children:
   1.  George Kenneth Simpson - b. March 2, 1897   d. May 5, 1968
   2.  Milton Ray Simpson - b. Jan. 16, 1899   d. July 25, 1968
   3.  Rosa Mae Simpson - b. Aug. 9, 1900   d. Oct. 29, 1976
   4.  William Henry Simpson - b. Oct. 9, 1901   d. Oct. 29, 1901
   5&6. Twins - stillborn between Aug. 1902 - Aug. 1903 and not named
   7.  Marvin Lewis Simpson - b. June 6, 1904  d. Jan. 14, 1993
   8.  Katie Elizabeth Simpson - b. June 22, 1905   d. Jan. 8, 1955
   9.  Claud Willard Simpson - b. July 20, 1907   d. Jan. 17. 1991
  10. Albert Vernon Simpson - b. Oct 16,. 1908   d. June 15, 1909
  11. William Richard Peters Simpson - b. Mar. 26, 1910   d. Feb. 8, 1970
  12. Mamie Belle Simpson - b. Dec. 19, 1911   d. April 30, 1977

"Artha" Smith, referred to on the back of this picture, was Mary Alice Smith's half-brother, Arthur Smith [son of Dempsey W. & Barbara (Evans) Smith].  Arthur Smith was born Dec. 22, 1890 and died Nov. 22, 1930.  Kenneth, Rosa & Milton are the first three children of George V. & Mary Alice (Smith) Simpson.
