Matthew Overton

1831 - 1916

Matthew Overton, son of Benjamin and Elizabeth (Davenport) Overton, married Margaret Walker in Tyrrell Co., NC on April 17, 1856.   Matthew and his wife moved to Coinjock from Tyrrell County in 1884.  Their children had been born in Tyrrell County, NC between 1857 and 1874.  Matthew was a cobbler, but when he came to Coinjock, he rented a farm, sometimes "hiring out" to work with other farmers.  Matthew died in 1916 at the age of 85, while his wife lived to be 95 years old.  She died in 1933.
