John & Almeda (Tillett) Melson Family

John Melson, s/o John A. & Mary "Polly" Melson, was born April 7, 1858 and died Jan. 9, 1931.  He married Almeda Tillett, d/o Josiah Holly Tillett, Sr. & Levina Baum/Harris, on July 26, 1896.  Almeda was born Sept. 5, 1876 and died in Elizabeth City on May 8, 1954.  John is buried in a cemetery on private land in Harbinger and Almeda is buried at Powells Point Christian Church Cemetery in Harbinger.  John and Almeda had 1 son and 3 daughters:

1. Thomas Randolph Melson was born in Currituck Co. on Aug. 19, 1897 and died in Elizabeth City, NC on July 31, 1971.  He married Nina P. Gallop in Currituck Co. in 1920.

2. According to the 1900 census Mercenia A. Melson was born in September 1899, probably in the Poplar Branch Twp. of Currituck County.  She married Willis Brinson.  The submitter knows nothing else about her.

3. Sarah Melson was born July 28, 1901 and died of pneumonia on September 8,  1902.  She is buried in the same cemetery that her father, John, is buried.

4. Brucie G. Melson was born February 28, 1903 and died August 16, 1974.  She is buried in the Powells Point Christian Church Cemetery in Harbinger, NC next to John Lloyd Gallop who is believed to be her husband.  The submitter knows nothing else about her. [see her photograph below]
