Daniel W. Meekins was born on Roanoke Island, NC on Feb. 13, 1832 to William Meekins and his wife, Delora Daniels.  Daniel died on March 29, 1915.  Daniel was first married to Sarah E. Etheridge in Currituck Co. on August 18, 1854 and to them were born six children: Wm. Lawrence Meekins, Walter Meekins, Delaria Meekins, Babel Meekins, Ephraim Meekins and Isaac Chauncey Meekins.  Daniel was married the second time to Emily Marchant on Feb. 12, 1874 and to them were born two children: Johnston Marchant Meekins and Leonard L. Meekins.  Daniel's third wife was Martha Brumsey whom he married in 1885 but no children came from this union.
