Lewis Sheldon Mann
Lewis Sheldon Mann was born circa 1834, more than likely on Roanoke Island in Currituck County.  Lewis was the son of Thomas Mann and Harriet Meekins who lived on Roanoke Island at least from 1832 until after the 1850 census was taken.  Lewis was 1st married to Matilda Wescott in Currituck Co. on April 13, 1854.  No known children came from this union.  He married for a 2nd time to Penelope Midyett in Tyrrell Co., NC on Oct. 2, 1862.  Penelope died in March of 1870 and as far as this researcher knows, there were no children from this union.  On Oct. 5, 1870 in the new county of Dare, Lewis married for the third time to Sarah Elizabeth Mott.  Sarah was born in Queens, NY on Feb. 2, 1840 to Willett & Sarah Mott.  She died in Norfolk, VA on May 2, 1909 and is buried in Magnolia Cemetery in Norfolk.  Lewis and Sarah had 5 children who were all born on Roanoke Island, Dare Co.  They were: Robert Sheldon Mann (1872-1912); Francis Joseph "Frank" Mann (1874-1920); Eliza Chapman "Lida" Mann (1875-1960); Harriet Easter "Hattie" Mann (1877-1958); and Arthur Garfield Mann (1879-1958).
