Currituck Lighthouse Club

Edward Collings Knight, Jr. belonged to the Lighthouse Club, however, the club would not admit women and Knight's wife, Amanda Le Bel, was an accomplished hunter.  According to local legend, Amanda Le Bel persuaded her husband to purchase the Lighthouse Club.  When he did purchase it she refused to stay or hunt there, having been denied membership into the club.  She convinced him to construct another club which turned out to be the most opulent hunt club ever built on the Currituck Sound.  The club was originally called "Corolla Island" and the name was changed to Whalehead Club after it was sold to Ray Adams of Washington, D.C.  For information on the Whalehead Club click here.
