Currituck Co., N.C. Houses

James Bell House

Located on Bullyard Road west of the Caleb Bell house, west of the railroad tracks between Snowden and Shawboro.  This house has double chimneys and Bible-and-Cross front door.  The house was built one story and a "jump" so that it could not be taxed as having a second story.  No dated chimney brick has been found, but the pit-sawn timbers and style of construction indicate that it was built in the late 1700's or early 1800's.  This photo and information are from the records of Charles Bray Williams.  Simeon Williams has kindly made this information available and granted permission for Anne Jennings to make this submission

UPDATE:  The James Bell House was moved by Charles Bray Williams from Bullyard in Currituck County to Camden County between 1976 and 1980. Materials from the Charlie Bell House and the Old Hall Place were used to build an addition to the James Bell house in its new location.  Pictures of all three homes on the original sites and the entire process of moving and re-building on the new site were taken by Charles Bray Williams and Simeon Williams.
