Samuel M. & Cassie Simmons (Walker) Beasley

According to his tombstone in Elmwood Cemetery in Norfolk, VA, Samuel Mordecai Beasley was born Feb. 7, 1863 & died Aug. 6, 1910 [see obituaries].  Sam was the son of Joshua Beasley & his wife Elizabeth (Bonney) Beasley.  Sam married Cassie Simmons Walker in Poplar Branch, NC on Apr. 12, 1885.  Cassie, born Nov. 6, 1865, was the daughter of Nathan L. Walker and Sarah Ann Simmons.  At age 81 Cassie died in Norfolk on Feb. 24, 1947 [see death certificate & obituary] and is buried beside her husband.  [see the Samuel Beasley house]

Sam & Cassie had three children.
   1. Louis Moran Beasley - b. July 5, 1886 Poplar Branch, NC  d. Aug. 28, 1945 Manhattan, NY.  Buried: Long Island National Cemetery, Farmingdale, NY [see his tombstone] Louis never married.

   2. Ethel Pauline Beasley - b. May 11, 1894 Currituck Co.  d. July 28, 1975 Petersburg, VA [see death certificate & obituary].  Buried:  Elmwood Cemetery, Norfolk, VA in the Beasley plot. Married: William A. Porter before Jan. 1920 likely in the Norfolk, VA area.  No children.

   3. William Kenneth Beasley - b. Nov. 1896 Currituck Co.  Vanished: Feb. 13, 1905 Poplar Branch, NC;  Kenneth was never found and presumed dead.  [see Misc. News Articles - scroll down to Washington Post Sept. 8, 1906-Sept. 20, 1907]
