John Aydlett Family of Currituck Co., NC

John Aydlett	Mary "Polly" (Gregory) Aydlett

John Aydlett, son of John Aydlett (1822-1870) and Allie Brock (1824-1887), was born Aug. 30, 1849 and died on Aug. 1, 1906 [see his estate record].  He married Mary "Polly" Gregory in Currituck Co. on Jan. 28, 1872.  Polly, the daughter of Hiram Gregory (1827-1908) and Julia Bean (1831-1895), was born Oct. 17, 1853 and died Aug. 5, 1900.  John & Polly (Gregory) Aydlett are buried in the Gregory Cemetery in Jarvisburg, NC.  They had 9 known children.

1) Ellen H. Aydlett - b. Oct. 8, 1872 - d. Oct. 23, 1931 [see death certificate]; married John Franklin Spence on Nov. 8, 1888.  John was born Mar. 28, 1863 and died Dec. 4, 1952 [see death certificate].  They are buried in the John Franklin Spence Family Cemetery in Pasquotank Co., NC

2) Fannie Aydlett - b. Jan. 26, 1875 - d. Dec. 14, 1895

3) Charley L. Aydlett - b. Aug. 16, 1878 - d. June 28, 1880

4) Quinton Trotman Aydlett - b. Feb. 24, 1881 - d. Dec. 21, 1969 [see death certificate]; married Sarah "Sadie" Elizabeth Thompson in 1902; buried in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Norfolk, VA.  Sarah & Laura Frances Thompson (who married Van Buren Aydlett seen below) were the daughters of Edmond & Matilda (Evans) Thompson--two Aydlett brothers married two Thompson sisters.  Edmond & Matilda were among the founders of Poplar Branch Baptist Church as were John and Mary "Polly" Gregory Aydlett along with William B. Garrenton and his wife Lydia Ann (Aydlett) Garrenton.  Lydia was the sister of John Aydlett.

5) Robert Lee Aydlett - b. Sept. 27, 1883 - d. Oct. 12, 1954; married Weltha Virginia Evans on Aug. 16, 1902 in Grandy, NC.  Weltha, daughter of Henry and Matilda Dowdy Evans, was born Sept. 27, 1885 & died June 24, 1960.  They are buried at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery in Norfolk, VA.

6) Van Buren Aydlett - b. May 21, 1886 [death certificate states 1885] - d. Oct. 25, 1941 Norfolk, VA; married Laura Frances Thompson on Jan. 21, 1906; buried in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Norfolk, VA.

7) Bertha May Aydlett - b. Sept. 10, 1888 - d. Nov. 11, 1934; married 1^st Mark Grandy in Currituck Co. on Sept. 1, 1909 and married 2^nd Thomas Jarvis Evans in Norfolk, VA on Mar. 18, 1923; buried in the Grandy Cemetery, Grandy, NC.

8) William Edgar "Willie" Aydlett - b. Oct. 30,1892 - d. Mar. 25, 1929 [see death certificate]; married Agnes ODell Sawyer Dec. 28, 1913 in Pasquotank Co., NC; buried in Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery, Norfolk, VA.  [At the age of 76 Agnes married Howard Busby Jones, also age 76, in Norfolk on Apr. 16, 1969.]

9) Thomas Franklin Aydlette - b. Apr. 25, 1895 - d. Oct. 17, 1955 San Francisco, CA; married Esther Pauline Reid in Washington, DC on May 17, 1930; buried in Golden Gate National Cemetery in San Bruno, CA.
