Orville Layton YOUMANS, Sr.

Orville Layton YOUMANS, SR., 80 of 102 Cherry Drive, Moyock, NC died Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at his residence.  A native of Burton, SC, he was the son of the late Robert Purnell YOUMANS and Dollie Mae Bennett YOUMANS and the husband of Clara Elaine Aukland YOUMANS of the residence.  He served in the SC National Guard for four years and was a retired Chief Signalman with twenty-two years in the U.S. Navy, a member of Pilmoor United Methodist Church, the William Clarence Jackson VFW Post 6060, the American Legion, and the Fleet Reserve.  Besides his wife he is survived by a daughter, Cynthia A. YOUMANS of Barco; two sons, Orville “Sonny” YOUMANS, JR., of Barco, NC and Brian YOUMANS of Moyock, NC; a sister, Sara Alice SCHAUFFORT of Reading, PA; two brothers, James YOUMANS and Robert YOUMANS, both of Summerville, SC; and a grandson, William Kevin YOUMANS of Barco.  A funeral service will be Friday, January 27, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Twiford’s Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Randy BLANCHARD officiating and the William Clarence Jackson VFW Post 6060 will render military Honors. Burial will be in West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery.  The family will receive friends Thursday from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home and at other times at the residence.  Twiford Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 405 East Church Street, Elizabeth City, NC is serving the Youmans family.

Charles Edward YOUNTS, JR.

Charles Edward “Eddie” Younts, Jr. age 71, a resident of Clemtown Community, passed away Monday September 9, 2019 at his residence.  Eddie was born December 7, 1947 in Elizabeth City, NC. a son of the late Charles Edward Younts, Sr. and Julia (Briggs) Younts.  He was united in marriage August 2010 to Kathy E. (Freeman) Younts who survives.  Also surviving are children, Cindy Younts of Kill Devil Hills, NC, Julie Younts of Kitty Hawk, NC, Racheal Penland of Kitty Hawk, NC, Jonathan Younts and wife Katie of Kitty Hawk, NC, Jackie Winslow and husband, JD of Elizabeth City, NC, Travis Bolton of Jarvisburg, NC, Hannah Freeman of Jarvisburg, NC, Sarah Austin and husband Richard of Philippi,and Jacque Beecham and husband Jerry of Virginia Beach, VA.  Eleven Grandchildren- Kyle, Alley, Kendal, Brooke, Skylar, Tyler, Elyza, Eva Gale, Cole and Ida Rose, Connor Lee Eight nieces and nephews; Nine great-nieces and nephews.  Mr. Younts was preceded in death by sister, Geraldine Younts.  He was the owner and operator of Eddie Younts Septic Service.  Mr. Younts was an avid hunter, fisherman, member of the NWFT, NRA, North Carolina White Tail, and the Powells Point Christian Church.  Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home 220 N. Walnut St. Philippi on Wednesday September 11, from 4-7 pm.  Funeral service will be held at 7 pm with Pastor Bryan Headley officiating. Eddie will be taken to the Powells Point Christian Church in North Carolina on Friday September 13, to lie in state from 12- 2 pm.  Funeral service will be held at 2 pm.  Interment will follow in the Powells Point Baptist Cemetery.  (Wright Funeral Home)

Julia Briggs YOUNTS

Julia Briggs YOUNTS, 98, of Powells Point, NC died Monday, January 29, 2018 at Sentara Barco Nursing Home. She was born June 22, 1919 in Currituck to the late William Henry BRIGGS and Louvina Ann Merrell BRIGGS and was the widow of Charles Edward YOUNTS. She was a retired secretary for Albemarle Mental Health and a member of Mt. Hebron United Methodist Church, Coinjock Chapter of Order of Eastern Star #218, and the Coinjock American Legion Hut Post #288.  She is survived by two daughters, Charlene Y. DOWDY (Jerry Thomas) of Powell’s Point, NC and Jacqueline Y. BEECHAM (Jerry) of Virginia Beach, VA; a son, Charles “Eddie” YOUNTS, JR. (Kathy) of Powells Point, NC; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. She was predeceased by a daughter, Geraldine Younts JERNIGAN.  A memorial service will be held at a later date. William ZACK, III

SHAWBORO - William "Bill" ZACK, III, 57, went to be with the Lord Feb. 5, 2010. He was born the son of Connie ZACK and the late William ZACK, II in Meadville, Pa. He graduated with a B.S./B.A. from Akron University. He dedicated his life to his family and friends and was a mentor and second father to many. As a dedicated man to our country, he served in the United States Marine Corps. He played in the Marine Corps band and served as honor guard to President NIXON. He worked as a financial systems analysts/program designer for the United States Coast Guard for 24 years. He was preceded in death by his father, William ZACK, II; his sister, Diane ZACK; and his niece, Melanie ZACK. Left to cherish his memory are his mother, Connie ZACK and brother, Rick ZACK and his wife of 27 years, Valerie. Children include Kevin ZACK of Swansboro, Amber DASHELL of Chesapeake, and Laura of Moyock; four children living at home include William IV, Addie, Jacob and Abigail ZACK; and two granddaughters, Jordan ZACK and Kassidy DASHELL. He was a lifetime student of learning. He formerly taught new members class at Beth Messiah where he was also a member. A visitation will be held Tuesday, Feb. 9, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in Altmeyer Funeral Home - Twiford Chapel, 929 S. Battlefield Blvd., Chesapeake. A service will be held at the funeral home Wednesday at 2 p.m. with Rabbi Joseph ROSENFARB.  Altmeyer Funeral Home is handling arrangements.  (The Virginian-Pilot - Monday, February 8, 2010)

Michael J. ZAGRAY

Michael J. ZAGRAY, 79, of 159 Spot Road, Harbinger, NC died Monday, December 24, 2007, Sentara Barco Nursing Home. Mr. ZAGRAY was born in Colchester, CT., and was the son of the late Michael J. ZAGRAY and Anna Matthews ZAGRAY. He was a retired Yeoman having served in the U. S. Navy for twenty years.  Survivors include his wife, Adelle Tittrell ZAGRAY of Harbinger, NC and one sister, Olba KVBIT.  A private memorial service will be held at a later date.  Twiford Funeral Home, 405 East Church Street, Elizabeth City, is assisting the ZAGRAY family with arrangements.  (Twiford Funeral Home obituary)

Lillie Beatrice ZIMBRO

BARCO - Lillie Beatrice ZIMBRO, 99, died July 17, 2002. A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Monday in National Memorial Park Cemetery, Falls Church, Va. Twiford's Memorial Chapel, Elizabeth City, is in charge.  (The Virginian-Pilot – July 19, 2002; pg. B7)

Jeffrey Allen ZINK

Jeffrey Allen ZINK, 28, a security guard, died Aug. 7, 1990, in Norfolk.  Mr. Zink, a native of Currituck County, was a member of Mount Zion United Methodist Church and the National Rifle Association.  Survivors include his mother and step-father, Phyllis W. and Bennie POYNER of Grandy; his father, Victor A. ZINK of Annapolis; and a step-sister, Sebrina POYNER of Pensacola, Fla.  The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Twiford's Memorial Chapel, Elizabeth City by the Rev. Emmit McCALL and the Rev. Jim CLARK.  Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Elizabeth City.  (The Virginian-Pilot – August 9, 1990; pg. D2)

Austin Michael ZOOK

KNOTTS ISLAND - Austin Michael ZOOK, 4, died at his residence December 6.  Austin was born in Norfolk on July 19, 1995 to John Allen and Diana Whitney ZOOK.  He was very outgoing and was loved by everyone who met him.  Austin will be missed by all.  Besides his parents, Austin is survived by a sister, Crystal Rose PRESCOTT of Knotts Island; a step-sister, Kellie PRESCOTT of Gibbs Woods; a brother, Zachary Tylor ZOOK of Chesapeake; paternal grandparents: Paul and Doris ZOOK of Chesapeake; and maternal grandparents: William and Melba WHITNEY of Littleton.  A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 9 in the Knotts Island Cemetery with Pastor J. George Henry ZOOK, JR.

POWELLS POINT - George Henry ZOOK, JR., age 64, of 109 Trenor Lane, Powells Point, NC, died Thursday, April 5, 2007 in Currituck County, NC. He was born in Coatesville, PA, the son of Margaret DANIELS of Millville, NJ, and the late O.S. DANIELS and was the husband of Nora C. ZOOK of the residence. Mr. ZOOK was retired from the Local 350 Iron Workers, a veteran of the U.S. Army, loved riding motorcycles and was an avid NASCAR fan.  Besides his wife and mother, Mr. ZOOK is survived by a daughter, Debbie GARDNER of Grandy, NC; two grandsons, Kevin GARDNER and Brian GARDNER both of Grandy, NC; a sister, Ann SMITH of Millville, NJ; and a brother, Ted ZOOK of Goshen, NJ.   No services are scheduled at this time.
