Richard Joseph KAPPLER

BARCO - Richard Joseph KAPPLER, age 78, of Barco, NC, died Monday, November 28, 2005, in Sentara Nursing Center Currituck. He was born in Somerville, MA, son of the late Leon KAPPLER and Blanche Marcinkiewicz KAPPLER. Richard served 24 years in the military, two years in the Navy Seabees, 10 years in the U.S. Army as a Military Police, 12 years in the Engineering Battalion and a retired Staff Sergeant E7 Class, and was a Purple Heart recipient. He also retired from his second career as a mail sorter for the U.S. Postal Service.  Mr. KAPPLER is survived by one daughter, Sandy SILOVI of NH; two sons Steven KAPPLER of RI, and Wayne KAPPLER of MA; two sisters, Justina McCLOUD of MA and Jennie GREGORY of FL; and two grandchildren.  A memorial service will be held at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery.  Twiford Memorial Chapel, 405 East Church Street, Elizabeth City, NC, is assisting the family.  (Twiford's Funeral Home records online)

Eileen Gunn KAVANAUGH

Eileen Gunn KAVANAUGH, 60, died Tuesday at her home in Corolla, North Carolina. Mrs. KAVANAUGH was born and raised at Willoughby, and spent most of her life in Ocean View. She was an accomplished pianist and was well known in the Tidewater area for writing and directing many successful variety shows for both the Knights of Columbus, Council 3548 and the Padul Caravan of the Alhambra. She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, where she served as church organist for many years.  She was a member of the first graduating class of Norfolk Catholic High School. She was a member of the Cavalier & Duck Woods Ladies Golf Association. She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Edward H. KAVANAUGH Sr.; six children, Edward H. KAVANAUGH Jr. of Corolla, Patrick W. KAVANAUGH and Daniel J. KAVANAUGH of Norfolk, Timothy M. KAVANAUGH of Phoenix, Arizona, Eileen K. MEUSEL of Virginia Beach, and John W. KAVANAUGH of Los Angeles; two sisters, Harriett G. SMITH of Virginia Beach and Jean G. O'BERRY of Houston, Texas; two brothers, William F. GUNN of Tampa Bay, Fla., and Paul J. GUNN of Chicago; and nine grandchildren.  A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10 a.m. today by Father John J. DORGAN. A Christian wake service was held Thursday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church at 7 p.m. The family will receive friends following the burial at 406 Pinewell Drive, Norfolk. William Wallace KEATTS

MOYOCK - William Wallace KEATTS, 73, went to be with the Lord on May 4, 2007. Mr. KEATTS was a native of Dallas, Texas, and a son of the late Mr. & Mrs. Gobern KEATTS.  After 22 years of distinguished military service Mr. KEATTS retired and moved to Moyock 21 years ago because of his love for boating and the water.  He was known to all as a gentle, quiet man with a Texan drawl.  He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Joan KEATTS; two sons, Michael KEATTS and Timothy RAYFIELD; a daughter, Karen RAYFIELD; one brother, Orton KEATTS and wife Ann of New Mexico; nephews Larry and Mark KEATTS; and three grandchildren, Kelsey RAYFIELD, Corbin RAYFIELD, and Raegan BOSTIC.  A memorial service will be held on Tuesday at 1:00 pm with the Rev. James HARRINGTON officiating at Twiford Colonial Chapel, 929 South Battlefield Blvd., Chesapeake. Mary Agnes Grendysa KECSKES

SHAWBORO - Mary Agnes Grendysa KECSKES, 88, a resident of Dearborn, MI., died Sunday June 12, 2005 at the home of her son in Shawboro, NC.  Mrs. KECSKES was born February 5, 1917, in Wayne County, Detroit, MI and was the daughter of the late Anthony A. and Agniescka Widok GRENDYSA.  She was a member of St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church and a former employee with General Motors and Houbline Corporation. Survivors include her sons; Roger KENT of Shawboro, NC, John KECSKES and Darrell KECSKES both of Dearborn, MI., six grandchildren Cheryl JOHNSON, Lori BYRD, Karen JENNERS, Darren KECSKES, Heather CORCORAN and David KECSKES, nine great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.  Mrs. KECSKES was preceded in death by her husband Andrew B. KECSKES in June of 1975, and her son James Robert KENT, her brothers Edward GRENDYSA and Thomas PADO.  A rosary prayer service will be held Thursday evening June 16, 2005, at 7:00 P. M. at Twiford Memorial Chapel, 405 East Church Street, Elizabeth City, NC, with The Very Rev. James BUCHOLTZ, V. F. officiating.  A Mass of Resurrection will be held Friday June 17, 2005, at 10:00 A.M. at St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, 154 Maple Road, Maple, NC with The Very Rev. James BUCHOLTZ, V. F. officiating.  A service will be held in Dearborn, MI., at a time to be announced. Harold Glen KEENER

ELIZABETH CITY - Harold Glen KEENER, 75, a former resident of Leesburg, VA and Poplar Branch, NC, died Monday, March 28, 2005, in the Sentara Barco Nursing Home. He was a native of Indiana, PA, and was son of the late Glen KEENER, and Vernie BRANDON.  Mr. KEENER was an insurance executive, veteran of the U. S. Navy, and a graduate of Juniata College in Pennsylvania.  He is survived by three daughters, Karen KEENER of Kitty Hawk, NC, Lynda K. AULENTI of Framingham, MA, and Leigh KEENER of New Britain, CT. one brother, John KEENER of Royal Oak, MI. and one grandson.  Mr. KEENER will be cremated and no memorial service will be held.  Twiford Funeral Home, 405 East Church Street, Elizabeth City, NC, is serving the Keener family.  (Twiford's Funeral Home records)

Charles A. KEIL

MOYOCK - Charles A. KEIL, 80, of Oxford Road, died Sept. 20, 2004, after a long battle with Parkinson's, at the home of a very special friend, Mr. and Mrs. William BOOTH. He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., son of the late Peter A. and Marie Munz KEIL. Mr. KEIL was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, where he was in the Knights of Columbus. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy and was a member of several HAM operators organizations, going by call number 4AACK. Mr. KEIL is survived by a nephew and a niece, as well as special friends, William and Linda BOOTH. A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Saint Katherine Drexel Catholic Church, Maple, N.C., with Minister Wojciech CHUDZIAK officiating. Burial will follow in Laurel Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Poplar Branch, N.C.  Twiford's Funeral Home, 405 E. Barnett Cleveland KEITH, II

GRANDY Barnett Cleveland KEITH, II, 80, died October 22 in Chesapeake, Va. General Hospital. Mr. KEITH was a retired civil service employee and a Protestant. He was the husband of Mrs. Juila Younts KEITH of Grandy and the son of the late C. Keith BARNETT, I and Mrs. Mary Price Keith BARNETT. Other survivors include a son, Barnett C. KEITH, III of Grandy; three sisters: Margaret JONS of Hollywood, Md., Elizabeth KNOX and Harriet STEVENS, both of Richmond, Va.; two brothers: James S. KEITH of Virginia Beach and William P. KEITH of Fairfax, Va.; and 2 grandchildren. Funeral services were held Wednesday at Ives-Pearson Funeral Home in Falls Church, Va. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery in Falls Church. Billy Jospeh KEITH

KNOTTS ISLAND - Billy Joseph KEITH, 66, resident of Knotts Island, entered heaven’s portal May 26, 2006. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 37 years, the former Joan MEDLIN of Durham; parents, Bill and Clara KEITH of Creedmoor; sister and brother- in-law, Sue and Kenneth WOODLIEF of Creedmoor; nephew, Neal WOODLIEF of Raleigh; mother and father-in-law, Marie and Henry McCARTHY of Durham; as well as aunts, uncles and cousins. He will be greatly missed by his beloved little dog, Harriet. Services will be conducted by pastors Alvin THOMAS and Jack SAULS at Hudson Funeral Home, Granville Chapel, 2589 W. Lyons Station Road in Creedmoor, Tuesday at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Oak Grove Memorial Gardens in Durham. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Hudson Funeral Home, Granville Chapel and other times at the home of his parents, 15408 Creedmoor Road in Creedmoor. IN MAPLE - Mrs. June Marcella Burgess KELLUM, 55, of Maple, died Tuesday morning in the Albemarle Hospital after a long illness.  Twiford's Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.  Mrs. KELLUM was a native of West Virginia and had lived in Maple for the past 12 years.  She was a member of the Rehoboth Baptist Church in Maple, daughter of Mrs. Elizabeth Browning TAYLOR of Barco and the late Arthur BURGESS.  She is survived by her husband, Marshall Lewis KELLUM of the home; her mother; one daughter, Miss Beth Violet KELLUM of the home; three sisters: Mrs. Margie SMITH of Morgantown, West Virginia, Mrs. Frances SMITH of Walnut Island, Grandy, and Mrs. Janice COOK of Blair, West Virginia.  (The Southern Post - July 14, 1982; pg. 9)

Laura KELLEY

MOYOCK - Laura KELLEY, 50, passed away, Saturday, Aug. 6, 2011 in her home due to complications from cancer, she was surrounded by her loving family. Born in Lexington, and a resident of Moyock since 2004. Laura will always be remembered as a devoted Christian, loving wife, beloved daughter, sister and friend to all who knew her. She was active at Moyock Baptist Church in WMU and many other projects that spread the Gospel to the community. She fiercely loved her friends and family. She was our best friend. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Mark of 30 years; mother, Edna and Ben HONEYCUTT; father-in-law, Douglas KELLEY; sisters, Lisa and Don NIPPERT, Kandie KELLEY and Kathy THOMAS-BECK; brothers, Bill and Connie THOMAS, Jim and Dawn THOMAS, Grady and Sheryl THOMAS, Mark and Heather HONEYCUTT; Godchildren David SIMONS, Leslie SALKELD, Maggie Jeane ADKISSON, Rachel COMER, Will and Alex MANSFIELD; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and life-long friends. Her father, James O. HODGES preceded her in death. A Viewing, from 2 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. and her Celebration of Life, at 4 p.m. will be held, Wednesday, Aug. 10th, at Moyock Baptist Church, 123 Oak St Moyock, NC 27958. Robert Scott KELLY

Robert Scott KELLY, 19, died March 16, 2001, in Carova Beach, Currituck County, as the result of an automobile accident.  Mr. KELLY was born in Grandy and was a carpenter for Shoreline Builders Contracting Co. He attended Grandy Assembly of God and was a former student at Currituck County High School.  Mr. KELLY was the son of Patricia "Pat" Sears CARDEN of Grandy and James Richard KELLY of Cocoa Beach, Fla. He is the step-son of Mike CARDEN, SR. of Grandy and Wanda KELLY of Cocoa Beach, Fla.  Besides his parents and step-parents surviving are two sisters, Jimmi Ann KELLY of Norfolk, and Allison SMITH of Grandy; two stepsisters, Kristie CARDEN and Jessica CARDEN, both of Hopewell, Va.; one stepbrother, Mike CARDEN Jr. of Hopewell; maternal grandparents, Ralph and Mildred SEARS of Grandy; paternal grandparents, Elbert and Cecilia KELLY of Cocoa Beach, Fla.; and paternal step-grandmother, Charlotte CARDEN of Grandy. A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the Grandy Assembly of God by the Rev. Van KENE. Burial will follow in Laurel Memorial Gardens. She was born in MacClenny, Fl. to the late Lonnie Thomas and Bessie Mae Carrin SHADD and was the wife of Roger J. KENT. Mrs. KENT was a member of the St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church and the Providence Baptist Church and a former choir member. She was a retired hairdresser.  Besides her husband, Mrs. KENT is survived by three daughters, Cheryl S. JOHNSON of Ft. Worth, TX, Lori L. BYRD of Moyock, NC and Karen K. JENNERS and husband, Jim, of Charles Town, W.Va; one brother, Grady Allen SHADD of Middleburg, FL; nine grandchildren, Matthew, David, James, Mary, Ernie, Anna Marie, Steven, Sarah, and Luke; three great-grandchildren, Marisa, Chase, and Dylan. She was preceded in death by a sister, Irene ODOM.  A Celebration of Mrs. KENT’s life will be held Wednesday afternoon, August 4, 2004, at 2:00pm in the St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, Maple, NC by Father Jim BUCHHOLZ and Rev. Roger James KENT

Roger James KENT, 75, of 114 Etheridge Road, Shawboro, NC died Wednesday, October 28, 2009, at Albemarle Hospital, Elizabeth City, NC. Born in Detroit, MI, he was the son of the late Harry James KENT and the late Mary Agnes Grendysa Kent KESCKES, and was the loving husband of the late Mrs. Melody Ruth Shadd KENT. Mr. KENT was a veteran, having served in the United States Navy as a Chief Radioman. He was a member of the St. Katherine Drexel Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and the William Clarence Jackson VFW Post 6060. Mr. KENT was an active member of the Virginia Electronics Association for many years. He was the owner of Kent’s TV and Radio repair for thirty-five years. He was a loving husband, son, father and brother and will be dearly missed.  Mr. KENT is survived by his daughters, Cheryl JOHNSON of Shawboro, NC, Lori BYRD of Moyock, NC, and Karen JENNERS of Charles Town, WV; two brothers, Darell KESCKES of Dearborn, MI, and John KESCKES of Dearborn, MI; nine grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.  A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 31, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Providence Baptist Church, 765 Shawboro Road, Shawboro, NC with The Very Rev. Jim BUCHHOLZ, V.F. and Rev. Charles WELLONS officiating. Military honors will be rendered by the William Clarence Jackson VFW Post 6060. Lawrence Linn KEPNER, of Grandy, died Wednesday, July 17at Albemarle Hospital. He was a native of Gettysburg, Pa. and had retired from the National Security Agency. He had also been employed at the Mariner Days Inn in Kill Devil Hills. He was a member of Poplar Branch Baptist Church and served in the U.S. Air Force. He was the son of the late Lawrence E. and Dorothy Belle Linn KEPNER and the husband of Betty Fissel KEPNER of the home. Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Debra KEPNER of Glen Burnie, Md.; three sons: Jeffrey KEPNER of Pasadena, Md., Phillip KEPNER of Dallas, Texas and Vincent KEPNER of Glen Burnie; a step-mother, Hazel G. KEPNER of Emmitsburg, Md.; 3 step-sisters and 10 grandchildren. A memorial service will be conducted on Saturday, July 20 at the Poplar Branch Baptist Church with the Rev. Michael JORDAN officiating. Dora Meads KIGHT

CURRITUCK, NC - Dora Meads KIGHT, 87, of Tulls Creek Road, Currituck, NC, died Wednesday, October 10, 2007 at Wilson Medical Center, Wilson, NC.  Mrs. KIGHT was born in Pasquotank County, NC and was the daughter of the late Charles Herman and Dora Brothers MEADS. She was a member of Moyock Baptist Church, a former choir member and taught Sunday School for years.  Survivors include her husband, Herman Brown KIGHT, SR. of Wilson, NC, a son, Herman Brown KIGHT, JR. and wife Randy, of Wilson, NC, one sister, Vivian ETHERIDGE of Shawboro, NC, two brothers, Carl L. MEADS, SR. of Shawboro, NC and Seth Keith MEADS and wife Edna of Elizabeth City, NC.  Four grandchildren, Brian Lee KIGHT, Yvonne Renee NOGLE, Robert Earl NOGLE, JR. and Rachel Lynne NOGLE, one great-grandchild, Jade Aliena TREECE. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Eleanore Kight NOGLE.  A graveside service will be held on Friday, October 12, 2007 at 1:00 pm in Highland Park Cemetery in Elizabeth City, NC with Rev. Gideon KIGHT

Gideon "Gid" KIGHT, 93, of 118 Texas Road, Shiloh, died Friday at his residence. Mr. KIGHT, a native of Currituck County, was the son of the late Gideon KIGHT and Mary Jane Gregory KIGHT and the husband of the late Isabell Forbes KIGHT. He was a machinist retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard and a Mason active in Hall Lodge #53 AF & AM, Shawboro. He is survived by a daughter, Toni REEL of Shiloh; two sons, Ronald KIGHT and Carlos KIGHT, both of Shiloh; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews whom he loved so much. A funeral service will be Monday, Feb. 10, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Twiford's Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Roland COOPER officiating. Burial will be in West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends immediately after the service in the lobby of the funeral home and at other times at the residence. Grace Garrington KIGHT

IN SHAWBORO - Mrs. Grace Garrington KIGHT, 82, of Shawboro, died Tuesday at 7 a.m. at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Marie BERRY.  The body was removed to Twiford's Memorial Chapel pending completion of funeral arrangements.  She was a native of Camden County and had lived in Shawboro for the past 10 years.  Mrs. KIGHT was the daughter of the late Mr. & Mrs. Edward GARRINGTON and widow of the late Enoch Lucian KIGHT.  She is survived by three daughters: Mrs. Marie BERRY of Shawboro, Mrs. Thelma HAMMITT of Virginia Beach, Va. and Mrs. Doris HUGHES of Goldsboro; a sister, Mrs. Sallie SMITH of Woodville; 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.  (The Southern Post - November 3, 1982; pg. 8)

Herman Brown KIGHT, SR.

Herman Brown KIGHT, SR., 93, a former resident of Tull’s Creek Road, Moyock, NC died Wednesday, December 26, 2007 at the Wilson Memorial Hospital in Wilson, NC. Mr. KIGHT was the son of the late Henry Forbes KIGHT and Sallie Seymour KIGHT. He was preceded in death by his wife Dora Meads KIGHT on October 10, 2007, and his daughter Eleanore Kight NOGLE, who died April 21, 2001.   He was a member of the Moyock Baptist Church, a retired farmer and a former member of the Currituck County School Board.   Survivors include his son Herman Brown KIGHT, JR. and his wife Randy Hall KIGHT of Wilson, NC; four grandchildren Brian Lee KIGHT, Yvonne Renee NOGLE, Robert Earl NOGLE, JR. and Rachel Lynne NOGLE, one great-granddaughter Jade Aliena TREECE.  A funeral graveside service will be held Saturday, December 29, 2007 at 1:00 P. M. at Highland Park Cemetery, in Elizabeth City, NC with the Rev. Charles WELLONS and Rev. Charles STEVENS officiating. COINJOCK James Travis KIGHT, SR., 55, died at Waterlily, Currituck County, on Saturday, Jan. 18. He was a native of Currituck County and was retired from Ford Motor Co. and was a charter member of Currituck Hunt Club. He was the son of Charlie Forbes and Margaret Sawyer KIGHT and husband of Andrea Makinson KIGHT of the residence. Besides his wife, survivors include a daughter, Kim HINES of Currituck; five sons: James Travis KIGHT, JR. of Coinjock, Charles Lester KIGHT of Maple, Daryl Keith KIGHT of Grandy, Larry Chase POPE of Currituck and Julian Wade KIGHT of Barco; one sister, Diane TILLETT of Manteo; two brothers: Julian KIGHT of Barco and Jerald KIGHT of Coinjock; and 11 grandchildren. Marshall KIGHT

Marshall KIGHT, 90 of 4131 Caratoke Highway, Barco, NC, died Monday, August 27, 2012 at his residence.  Marshall was born on January 22, 1922, and a long time resident of Currituck County.  Mr. KIGHT served in World War II, retired with thirty-seven years from Ford Motor Company, and a member and Past Master of the Masonic Lodge #403 AF & AM.  His hobbies were bird hunting, golf, fishing, gardening, and spending time with his family.  He is survived by his wife, Mary Louise Lindsey KIGHT; his sons, Dean KIGHT and wife Joyce, Rodney KIGHT and wife Georgia; daughter, Marsha TOWNSEND and husband Doug; grandchildren, John Marshall KIGHT, Gunner KIGHT, Daniel TOWNSEND, Whitney Kight MITCHELL, Katelin KIGHT, and David TOWNSEND; three great grandchildren, Cheyenne, Cayla, and Colton MITCHELL.  A funeral service will be Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Twiford’s Memorial Chapel with the Rev. William Wilford ``Shug'' KIGHT, SR.

William Wilford ``Shug'' KIGHT, SR., 80, retired owner and operator of Kight's Lumber Company, died Oct. 18, 1991, in an Elizabeth City hospital.  Mr. KIGHT was born in Currituck County. He was a member of Perkins United Methodist Church.  Survivors include his wife, Mary Sanderlin KIGHT; two sons, William KIGHT, JR. and David KIGHT, both of Camden; a brother, Herman KIGHT of Moyock; four grandchildren and a great-grandchild.  (The Virginian-Pilot – October 19, 1991; pg. Sherman Welbourn KILLIHAN, SR

WALNUT ISLAND - Sherman Welbourn KELLIHAN, SR, 74, of Walnut Island, passed away April 27, 2004 in his home.  A native of North Carolina, Mr. KELLIHAN was a retired real estate agent.  He was a Mason and enjoyed carpentry, fishing on the Currituck Sound and spending time with family.  He is survived by his wife, Dorothy A. KELLIHAN; four sons: Sherman "Pete" KELLIHAN and wife Jeannie, Sol KELLIHAN and wife Pat, Shawn KELLIHAN and wife Bobbie, and Stuart KELLIHAN and wife Dorian; 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters and a brother.  He was predeceased by a daughter, Carolyn V. Lydia Commander KILLMON

Lydia Commander KILLMON, 98, died Sept. 30, 1996, in a Norfolk nursing home.  Born in Knotts Island, N.C., she was the widow of Adolphus Weldon ``Dolly'' KILLMON. She was a member of Temple Baptist Church, Virginia Chapter #22, Order of the Eastern Star and Tidewater Senior Citizens Club. She held Bible study in her home for 36 years.  Survivors include her stepson, John ``Jack'' W. KILLMON of Norfolk; a granddaughter, Kelly GRAY of Virginia Beach; two grandsons, Michael K. CROCKETT of Virginia Beach, Leslie L. CROCKETT of Virginia Beach; and a great-grandchild, H. Hunter BEATON III of Virginia Beach. She was predeceased by a daughter, Garnett C. CROCKETT. A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday in Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel. SHAWBORO - Bertie Jones Sanderlin KIMBLE, 82, of 1843 Short Cut Road, Shawboro, NC, went to be with her savior Saturday. June 5, 2010. Mrs. KIMBLE, a native of Camden County, NC and a life long resident of Currituck County was the daughter of the late Elmer and Mrs. Bertie Needham JONES and was widow of William Ralph SANDERLIN, SR. and Herb KIMBLE. She was a member of New Vision Community Church.  Mrs. KIMBLE is survived by a son, William Ralph SANDERLIN, JR. and wife Darlene of Shawboro, NC; three sisters Alma MULLEN and husband James of Moyock, NC, Joyce LAMBERTSON and husband Roger of Camden, NC, Janet SHORE of Winston Salem, NC; one brother E.B. JONES and wife Betty of Camden, NC; and several nieces and nephews.  A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 7, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Twiford’s Memorial Chapel 405 East Church St. Elizabeth City, NC with Rev. Wayne SAWYER officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. HERTFORD - Linda L. KING, born Feb. 11, 1948 in East Liverpool, OH left us Fri. morning surrounded by her family and loved ones, who will dearly miss her.  Survived by her husband Sidney KING; daughter Cassandra "Candy" L. KING and husband James V.; grandchildren, Chelsea L. KING and Dillion KING; parents Leonard and Louise PITTENGER; sisters D. Jeannie FISHER and Starr L MURPHY; brother, Lenny PITTENGER; and a host of nieces and nephews.  Linda was loved by many and loved life itself. She was known as "Lucky Linda" and will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.  Graveside services will be held on Monday at 2:00pm in the Moyock Cemetery with Pastor Vic CULBERSON officiating. NORFOLK, VA. Nellie Elizabeth KING, 93, died Sept. 5. Mrs. KING was born in Jarvisburg, daughter of the late Joseph and Lena Bray JEFFERSON. She was the widow of Johnny KING and was a member of Queen Street Baptist Church in Norfolk. She attended Elizabeth City State Normal College, now known as Elizabeth City State University. She was a former textile worker. Survivors include seven sisters: Julia HUNT of Willingsboro, N.J., Earline CRADLE of Portsmouth, Va., Nina WILLIAMS of Norfolk, Lena ALFRED, Pinkie FLOYD, Vashti MOORE, all of Arlington, Va. and Margaret RICH of Raleigh; one brother, Joseph JEFFERSON of Jamesville; three brothers-in-law and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives. Robert Richmond KIRK, 85, of Grandy, died Tuesday, January 18 at his residence. He was a native of Fayette County, West Virginia and was the son of the late Robert Clayton and Louise Belcher KIRK and the widower of Ida Dora Hendricks KIRK. Survivors include a daughter, Billie Madge BLISARD of Grandy; two sons: Robert Reid KIRK of Union, West Virginia and Darrow Dean KIRK of Fairlea, West Virginia; 8 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Gladys Amy Pulver KISSEL

MOYOCK - Gladys Amy Pulver KISSEL, 76, died Nov. 10, 2004, at her residence. She was born in Albany, N.Y., daughter of the late Walter and Amy Rifenberg PULVER and the widow of Jesse Russel KISSEL. Mrs. KISSEL loved to play bingo and work crossword puzzles, as well as spend time with her family. Mrs. KISSEL is survived by three daughters, Kathleen FULTON and husband William and Deborah HAZARD, both of Moyock, and Ann SANDERS and husband Ronald of Chocowinity, N.C.; two sons, Warren J. KISSEL and wife Terry of Moyock, N.C., and Rusty KISSEL and wife Sunday of Kill Devil Hills; a sister, Evelyn WHITTAM of Albany, N.Y.; 14 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, Mrs. KISSEL was preceded in death by a son, Michael KISSEL; and a grandson, Warren J. KISSEL, JR., who is survived by his wife, Alana KISSEL of New Jersey. Jesse KISSEL JR.

MOYOCK - Jesse KISSEL, JR., 27, died on Saturday, July 27 from an automobile accident in Coinjock.  Jesse was born May 8, 1975 at DePaul Hospital in Norfolk, Va.  He was a 1993 graduate of First Colonial High School in Virginia Beach. Va. and was currently employed as the market manager at the Food Luon on Dominion Blvd. in Chesapeake, Va.  Mr. KISSEL is survived by his wife, Alana S. KISSEL; two children: Felisha KISSEL, seven years old, and Brian KISSEL, six months old; his mother, Carrie KISSEL of Norfolk, and his father, Warren KISSEL of Moyock; and his paternal grandparents Gladys and Jesse KISSEL of Moyock; along with a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, neighbors, co-workers and friends.  Funeral services for Mr. KISSEL will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 31 at Christian Home Baptist Church on Tulls Creek Road, in Moyock.  Burial will follow in the Moyock Memorial Cemetery.  Viewing will be from 1 p.m. until the time of service at the church.  Walson Funeral Service of Elizabeth City is in charge of arrangements.  (The Coastland Times - Tuesday, July 30, 2002; pg. 5A)

Jesse Russel KISSEL

MOYOCK - Jesse Russel "Pop" KISSEL, 79, of Guinea Road, died Oct. 26, 2004, at Barco Sentara Nursing Center. He was born in Jersey Shore, Pa., son of the late Jesse A. KISSEL and Helen KISSEL of Albany, N.Y., and was the husband of Gladys Amy Pulver KISSEL of the residence. Mr. KISSEL was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served in World War II as a deep sea diver. Mr. KISSEL was a mechanist at Lyon Shipyard, where he was a member of the seafare union and he loved to fish. Besides his wife and mother, Mr. KISSEL is survived by two daughters, Kathleen FULTON and husband William and Deborah HAZARD; two sons, Warren J. KISSEL and wife Terry, all of Moyock, and Rusty KISSEL and wife Sunday of Kill Devils Hills, N.C.; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two sisters; and a brother. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael KISSEL and a grandson, Warren J. KISSEL, JR., who is survived by his wife, Alana KISSEL of New Jersey. GRANDY - Charles KLIMOVITCH, 89, of Grandy, NC, died Saturday, June 18, 2005, at Carolina House, in Elizabeth City, NC. A native of Ashley, PA, he was born the son of the late Charles and Angela Barnouskas KLIMOVITCH, and was the widower of Adele Marcell Kosloski KLOMOVITCH. He was a retired Master Sgt. of the U.S. Air Force, and a Catholic.  Mr. KLIMOVITCH is survived by: three sons, Donald KLIMOVITCH of Elizabeth City, NC, Charles SUMMERS of Victoria, TX, and John KLIMOVITCH of Orlando, FL; and two grandchildren, Emily and Stephen.  A memorial service will be conducted Friday, June 24, 2005 at 2:00 PM at Twiford’s Memorial Chapel with the Rev. MOYOCK - William Arthur "Bill" KLYVER, 58, passed away May 27, 2006, in his home after a 10-year battle with cancer. He was predeceased by his father, William A. KLYVER, SR. He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Ruth Anna HURTT; his daughter, Susan V.; mother, Effie N. of Virginia Beach; and brother, Geoffrey L. of Richmond, Va. William graduated from Great Bridge High School in 1965 and earned his degree from Virginia Wesleyan College in 1972. He was the owner of B&T Outboard Service. William’s life will be celebrated at a graveside service conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in Riverside Memorial Park, Norfolk. James Wallace KNAPP, age 87, of 113 Kingsway, Moyock, NC, died Friday, July 20, 207 at Sentara Barco Nursing Center. Mr. KNAPP, a native of Jersey City, NJ, was the son of the late Wallace Leroy KNAPP and June Wagner KNAPP and the widower of Gertrude Wolfe KNAPP. He was the owner and operator of J. W. William John Warren KNAUSS, 18, of Moyock, died Saturday, August 6. He was born in Elizabeth City and was a student at Currituck County High School and a member of First Baptist Church in New Mexico. He was a member of Currituck High School Band and worked in Holiday Inn at Nags Head. He was the son of Charles S. and Diane Davis KNAUSS. Besides his parents he is survived by his maternal grandparent, Doris DAVIS of Elmira, N.Y.; and paternal grandparents, George J. KNAUSS of Elizabeth City and Katherine KNAUSS of Elizabeth City. BARCO - Yen Thi Nguyen KNOWLES, 62, of 111 Bens Bonanza, Barco, N.C., died at her residence on Saturday, Nov. 25, 2006. Born in Ankhe, Vietnam on April 5, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Dien huu NGUYEN and Do Tran THI. She was a former cafeteria worker with the Currituck County School System. Mrs. KNOWLES is survived by two daughters, Thanh Jordan HICKS of Jarvisburg, N.C., and Thuy Hoang AITKEN of Moyock, N.C.; one sister, Phuong NGUYEN of Vietnam; two brothers, Hung NGUYEN of Tampa, Fla., and Hau NGUYEN of Vietnam; six grandchildren, Michael HICKS, Allison HICKS, Amber AITKEN, Brittany NEUSER, Ciara AITKEN and Darron AITKEN. Charles Allen KNOY

MOYOCK - Charles Allen "Chuck" KNOY, 65, beloved husband of Diane, devoted father of Kevin and Kelley, and grandfather of Diana and Rocco, passed away at home surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer April 14, 2004. Born in Paris, Ark., Chuck spent most of his childhood in California. He served in the U.S. Navy for 10 years and during the Vietnam Conflict. He was employed with the U.S. civil service for 25 years. Chuck retired in 1997 from the Naval Air Warfare Center. He was the first American pilot to fly a Russian made wing and ground effect vehicle. Chuck was a master Mason with Lynnhaven Lodge 220 AF&AM and a member of the Khedive Temple. He was dedicated to helping animals and is survived by two loving rescue dogs, Tippy and Baby "Goober." He is survived by his wife, Diane Bergstrom KNOY of the residence; a daughter, Kelley Lynn Knoy KASMARK and husband, Thomas of Virginia Beach; a son, Kevin Kurt KNOY and wife, Deena Ackley KNOY of North Ridgeville, Ohio; his mother, Syble Jones KNOY of Porterville, Calif.; two sisters, Betty BARTEL-BROWN and husband, George of San Jose, Calif. and Charlene K. MENTZER and husband, Chuck of Visalia, Calif.; and two grandchildren, Diana Marie KASMARK and Rocco John KASMARK. It was Chuck's wish to have a Celebration of Life at his home. Robert Franklin KOONTZ, JR., also known as Bobcat and Mr. Baseball, 69, of 160 Augusta Drive, Grandy, NC died Friday, October 22, 2010 at the Albemarle Hospital.  Mr. KOONTZ, a native of Davidson County, NC was the husband of Marian Jane Porter KOONTZ of the residence. Frank KOTZIAN, SR.

Frank KOTZIAN, SR., 66, died Wednesday morning at 2:45 o'clock at the family residence at Moyock following an illness of five months.  He was a native of Austria, Hungary and had been living at Moyock for the past 20 years.  He was the son of the late Frank and Barbara Ringler KOTZIAN.  He was a retired machinist.  He was a member of the Oak Grove Pentecostal Holiness Church at South Mills.  He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Annie Schultz KOTZIAN of Moyock; one son, Frank Jr. of Northwest, Va.; one sister, Mrs. Margaret BERMEL of Buffalo, N.Y.; and four grandchildren.  The body was removed to the Twiford Funeral Home and will be carried to the Oak Grove Pentecostal Holiness Church at South Mills Friday for funeral services to be conducted at 2 o'clock.  Burial will follow in the family plot near Moyock.  (Unknown April 1954 newspaper kindly submitted by Anne JenningsNOTE:  The 1930 census shows this family living in Eddystone, Delaware Co., Pennsylvania.  Frank Sr. is age 42; his wife, Anna is age 35; and Frank Jr. was age 17 born in NC.  North Carolina death records on Ancestry.com shows Frank Kotzian, Sr. died April 7, 1954 in Moyock, Currituck Co., NC.]

Sarah Lena McPherson KOTZIAN, 91, of 955 South Mills Road, Moyock, died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2011 at Sentara Barco Nursing Center. Born in Norfolk County, Va., she was the daughter of the late Cecil and Lela Hall McPHERSON and was the wife of the late Frank J. KOTZIAN SR. She was a member of Northwest Baptist Church. Mrs. KOTZIAN is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth ROWLAND and husband, William, of Chesapeake, Va. and Anna SAWYER and husband, Frank, of Moyock; two sons, Frank J. " Buddy" KOTZIAN and wife, Sue, of Hertford, and Danny KOTZIAN and wife, Lynn, of Moyock; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and son-in-law, Jimmy HUGHES of Gibbs Woods. She was predeceased by a daughter, Frankie HUGHES. A private graveside service will take place at the family cemetery. Barbara Jean KRAHENBILL, 63, of Moyock, NC died Monday, August 26, 2013 at her residence. She was born October 9, 1949 in Norfolk, VA to the late Ralph J. and Margaret Passaro LITCHFIELD. Mrs. KRAHENBILL was the wife of Harold KRAHENBILL.  In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, Mark Allen KRAHENBILL and wife Maureen of Chesapeake, VA and Jason Adam KRAHENBILL of Moyock, NC; two grandchildren, Kaleigh and Sean KRAHENBILL and a brother Eddie LITCHFIELD and wife Janice of Norfolk, VA. Quentin August "Gus" KRAUSE

Quentin August "Gus" KRAUSE, 62, of Southern Shores, died Friday, December 28 at an Outer Banks medical facility. Mr. KRAUSE, a native of Chicago, Illinois, was a retired restaurant owner and real estate salesman. He was a member of the Jarvisburg Church of Christ where he served as elder and trustee. He was a member of the Currituck Lions Club, was past district governor of Lions International, served on the NC Commission for the Blind and was a member of the Clarence Jackson Post 6060 of the VFW. He was a U.S. Marine veteran, having served in WW II and the Korean War. Mr. KRAUSE was the son of the late August Herman and Anna Benda KRAUSE and the husband of Phyllis Doyle KRAUSE of the home. JARVISBURG - Joyce Sawyer KROETSCH, 62, of Caratoke Highway, died Nov. 11, 2005 at the Albemarle Hospital in Elizabeth City. Mrs. KROETSCH was born May 29, 1943, in Pasquotank County, Elizabeth City, N.C., and was the daughter of Eva Garrenton SAWYER and the late Roy Edward SAWYER, SR. She was a graduate of J. P. Knapp High School, Class of 1961, and a former employee of Albemarle Hospital where she was an X-ray technician. Survivors include her daughter, Melissa Sawyer GERGEN of Point Harbor, N.C.; her mother, Eva Garrenton SAWYER of Jarvisburg; a brother, Roy E. SAWYER, JR. of Powells Point, N.C.; one grandson, James Hunter GERGEN; and a niece, Lovey Ellen SAWYER. MOYOCK - Our sweet angel, Joseph Alan KRONER, 23, lost his valiant fight with Hodgkin’s Disease on July 17, 2006. Joseph loved riding motorcycles, fishing and watching the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was a wrestler at Maury High School. Joseph will be missed most by his loving family.  He is predeceased by his sister, Sable KRONER and his PaPa, Norman (Buddy) BASSETT. Sable Nicolle KRONER died Sunday, Aug. 13, at the Children's Hospital of the Kings Daughters. She was a student at Central Elementary School in Maples and the daughter of Trisha and William KRONER, JR. Sable is survived by one sister, Chassidy KRONER of Moyock; two brothers: Jeremiah and Joseph KRONER, both of Norfolk; maternal grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Don McABEE of Niles, Michigan; paternal grandfather, William KRONER of Pittsburg, Pa.; and paternal grandmother, Florence BAGLEY of Moyock. William Joseph KRONER

William Joseph KRONER, 89, of Moyock, NC died Thursday, September 19, 2013 at Sentara Barco.  Mr. KRONER, a native of Pittsburg, PA, was the son of the late Joseph KRONER and Clara Sodum KRONER.  He was a retired Federal Building Manager, a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII, a member of American Legion Post 531 and St. Joseph Catholic Church in New Kensington, PA.  He is survived by a daughter, Kathy PALLETTE and husband Richard of Moyock, NC; a son, William KRONER, JR., and wife Trish of Moyock, NC; three grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.   He was predeceased by two grandchildren, Sable KRONER and Joseph KRONER.  A graveside funeral service will be Monday, September 23, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Moyock Memorial Cemetery with the Rev. F. Karl Bertrand KUHLMANN

Karl Bertrand KUHLMANN, 63, of Moyock, died March 19 in a Chesapeake , Va. hospital. He was a native of Souix City, Iowa and a retired planner for the US Army Corps of Engineers. He was a Protestant and served in the US Navy. He was a graduate of Central High School in Souix City, South Dakota State University and Utah State University. He was the son of the late Henry Charles and Mrs. Bertha Hedlund KUHLMANN, SR. He was the husband of Maxine Hooper KUHLMANN of the home. Besides his wife, he is survived by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Henry Charles KUHLMANN, JR. A chapel service will be conducted on Tuesday, March 22, at 2 p.m. in the Twiford Colony Chapel in Manteo by the Rev. C.L. REYNOLDS. Burial will follow in the family cemetery in Waves. Alva Gene KUHN

POINT HARBOR - Alva Gene KUHN, 85, of Point Harbor, NC, passed away Friday, March 27, 2009. A World War II Veteran, Gene served his country in the United States Navy for four years aboard the USS White Plains saying he “had been everywhere from Iwo Jima to Leyte Gulf.” Gene recently received and proudly wore his World War II Victory Medal.  Gene loved all sports, but being a Hoosier, he especially loved college basketball and auto racing. Gene was a member of Jarvisburg Church of Christ where he and his wife worshiped for fifteen years. Gene spent many hours on the tractor preparing the grounds for Sunday service. Gene was a dedicated and adoring husband, caring father, and loving and supportive grandfather. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.  Gene is survived by his wife of fifty-nine years, Margaret KUHN, of Point Harbor, NC; a son, Michael KUHN and his wife, Diane, of Collierville, TN; a daughter, Joan WOOD and her husband, Donnie, of Virginia Beach, VA; and a son who preceded him in death, Lonnie KUHN, and his wife Carol, of Hertford, NC. Gene has a grandson, Stephen KUHN of Memphis, TN; three granddaughters, Lori WRIGHT of Fayetteville, NC, Emily WALSH of Virginia Beach, VA, and Lindsay KUHN of Collierville, TN; two great granddaughters; and four great grandsons.  The family would like to thank staff and friends at Sentara Hospice for their attention and care over the last three weeks. Margaret Sutton KUHN

Margaret Sutton KUHN, 84 of Echingham Drive, Virginia Beach, VA died Thursday, May 16, 2013, in the Chesapeake General Hospital.  She was born January 26, 1929 in New Castle, IN to the late Hubert Lee and Velva Anise Ratliff SUTTON.  She was the widow of the late Alva Gene KUHN. Mrs. KUHN was a lifelong secretary who could take shorthand at somewhere near a thousand words a minute while typing up an insurance application and eating lunch from her favorite Chinese restaurant.  Later, after her “retirement”‘ Margaret became the church secretary for the Evangelist of the Jarvisburg Church of Christ in Jarvisburg, NC, Dennis CREHAN,  where she spent years trying to figure out how one man could mess up a filing system so much in so little time.  That being said, she loved her church family with all her heart and she never considered her work a job.  Dennis and his church became another extension of her family.  Never receiving professional training, she became an accomplished pianist in her younger years, playing in the family band, “Shorty’s Seven Suttons,” around southern Indiana.  She sang with and played for her 3 children who grew up around her piano. She taught them a love of music that they hold dear today and have passed on to their children.  She played the organ and piano at the church and loved to sing in the choir; especially the Easter and Christmas cantatas.  Margaret touched so many lives with her kindness, generosity, and a love of her God and church.  She will be missed by anyone who had the pleasure to have known her.  Heaven has another voice in the choir.  Mrs. KUHN is survived by one daughter, Joan WOOD and husband, Donnie of Virginia Beach, VA; one son, Mike KUHN and wife, Diane of Collierville, TN; and a daughter-in-law, Carol KUHN of Hertford, NC.  Also surviving are two sisters, Treva CROSS of Indianapolis, IN and June CROXFORD of Nampa, ID, one brother, Robert SUTTON of Lake Ann, MI; 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.  Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Lonnie KUHN, a sister, Joan NEAL, and 4 brothers, Jack SUTTON, Walter SUTTON, Paul SUTTON, and Doyle SUTTON.  Funeral services will be conducted Monday, May 20, 2013, at 2:00 at the Jarvisburg Church of Christ by Pastor Dennis CREHAN.  Burial will follow in the Laurel Memorial Gardens, Poplar Branch, NC.  The family will receive friends and relatives at the church Monday afternoon from 1:00pm until funeral.   Twiford Funeral Home, 405 E. Dewey William KUKACKA, III

JARVISBURG - Dewey William KUKACKA, III, 41, died Aug. 7, 2004, from the result of injuries received in a tree cutting accident. Mr. KUKACKA was born Sept. 9, 1962, and was a native of Amityville, Long Island, N.Y. He was employed with Outer Banks Chrysler and a was a certified Chrysler master technician, A.S.E. certified. He was a member of the Poplar Branch Baptist Church and a Sunday school teacher. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. Survivors include his wife, Andrea Chappell KUKACKA; two daughters, Rebecca Cathleen KUKACKA and Emily Frances KIKACKA, both of the home; his parents, Dewey William KUKACKA, II and Delores Kathleen Merila KUKACKA and his maternal grandmother, Frances Guldbrandsen MERILA, all of Shelter Island N.Y.; three sisters, Julie K. DOHERTY of New Bern, N.C., Theresa KUKACKA of Greenport, N.Y. and Merrideth K. GONZALES of Shelter Island, N.Y.; and his father and mother-in-law, Sam and Jeanette Goodwin CHAPPELL of Jarvisburg, N.C. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Samantha Cathleen KUKACKA. Mrs. KUUSE, a native of Norfolk, VA, was the wife of Donnie GARDNER of the residence and the daughter of Myrtle May Harrison HALL of Grandy, NC, and the late William Winslow HALL. She was a homemaker and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. GRANDY - Everett Current LAIL, JR., 64, of Carolina Club Drive, died Oct. 17, 2004, at his residence. He was a retired food technologist with the U.S. Department of Agriculture and was a retired lieutenant colonel with the U.S. Army Reserve. He was a former member of the Fairfax High School Athletic Booster Club and member of the Lower Currituck Lions Club. Besides his wife and mother, he is survived by a daughter, Sara Michelle LAIL of Washington D.C.; a son, Christopher Current LAIL and wife Angela of Haymarket, Va.; a sister, Paula Kay KINGSLOVER of Madison, Ala.; and a brother, Larry Thomas LAIL of Cynthiana. NORFOLK - Essie Marie ``Lil Sis'' LAMB, 78, of the 800 block of E. Princess Anne Road, died Sept. 6, 1990.   Mrs. LAMB, a native of Currituck County, N.C., was the widow of Alonza LAMB. She was a member of New Providence Missionary Baptist Church, Shawboro, N.C.  Survivors include four daughters, Nola C. LINDSEY, Mildred M. TURNER and Janet F. PETERSON, all of Norfolk, and Shirley H. LAMB, of Coram, N.Y.; two sons, Calis C. LAMB of Mattituck, N.Y., and Donald LAMB of Norfolk; a sister, Beulah SPENCE of Elizabeth City; 23 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.  The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday in New Providence Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. He was a member of the local 79 Ironworkers Union, enjoyed spending time with family, friends and above all, grandchildren. Mr. LAMMIE was predeceased by his son, Bobby LAMMIE. CHESAPEAKE - Glenna B. LANCASTER, 81, of Chesapeake passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by family, Sunday, January 26, 2014.  Born in Moyock, North Carolina she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Mary BALLANCE was formerly a volunteer at Chesapeake General Hospital. Glenna will be remembered for her quirky humor and smile.  Most of all, she will be remembered for the love, devotion, determination and support shown to her family.  Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Stanley LANCASTER, SR.; a daughter, June RIFENBURY and husband Kirk; grandchildren, Derek and Kelsey RIFENBURY; sisters, Grace SWAIN and Phyllis TAYLOR; brothers, Robert BALLANCE and Daniel BALLANCE as well as many nieces, nephews extended family and friends who have shared their love with Glenna.  The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 31, 2014 at the Great Bridge Chapel of Oman Funeral Home & Crematory, 653 Cedar Road, Chesapeake. Eddie Troy LANE, 69, of 5949 Caratoke Highway, NC died Friday, November 25, 2011 at Sentara Barco Nursing. Mr. LANE, born in Currituck County, was the son of the late Alphonso F. LANE, JR. and Margaret Dowdy MATTHEWS and the husband for 23 years of Rebecca White LANE of the residence. He was retired with 30 years of service as a machine operator with DOT. He was a member of Poplar Branch Baptist Church, Past Master of Currituck Lodge #463 AF&AM, Past Worthy Patron of Coinjock Chapter #218 OES, and Scottish Rite Bodies. He was a veteran of the United States Army.  Besides his wife and mother, Mr. LANE is survived by his step-daughter, Tammy WHITE and husband Mark of Barco, NC; step-sons, Todd DOZIER and wife Tammi and Hank DOZIER and wife Theresa all of Currituck, NC; grandchildren, Brandon, Taylor, Gregory and Haley; niece, Ellen GAZALA of Lexington, KY; two great-nieces and sister-in-law, Janet LANE of Chesapeake, VA. LANE.  She was a member of Poplar Branch Baptist Church for 56 years.   She is survived by a son, William G. LANE, of the home; a sister, Lettie L. GARRIS of Virginia Beach. Va.; two brothers: Gilbert WATSON and wife Helen of Roanoke Rapids, and Edward WATSON and wife Eula of Edenton; three grandchildren: William A. LANE and wife Kim, Douglas T. LANE and Jennifer E. LANE; and a great-grandson, Jack R. LANE.  She was predeceased by a son, C. Murray LANE and four sisters: Laura L. WATSON, Matoaka L. WILLIAMS, M. Elizabeth SPRUILL, and Guy E. LANDRY. Loyd Sanford LANE, also called "Sam" and "Sambo", 78, died in Chesapeake General Hospital on Feb. 9. The son of the late Elias Scott and Annie Hendricks LANE, he was born in Perquimans County on Dec. 6, 1919. He lived his life in southeastern North Carolina pursuing retail business, agricultural and construction interest. He was married to Audrey Mae Cartwright LANE since Oct. 29, 1942. He was predeceased by a son, Forrest Ray. Survivors also include a son, Loyd Carlton; 3 grandchildren: Jason, Adriann and Christy; one great-grandchild, Tia Marie; three brothers: Cliff, Amos and Curtis "Rock"; and two sisters: Nell Mae PROCTOR and Edna RUSSELL. PORTSMOUTH, VA. - Mrs. Mamie Simpson LANE, 65, of Northport Apts., Seminole Drive, Portsmouth, died Saturday at 8:45 p.m. in the Maryview Hospital in Portsmouth following an illness of one year.  She was a native of Grandy and lived in Portsmouth most of her life.  She was a member of the Craddock Baptist Church in Craddock, Va. and daughter of the late George and Mrs. Alice Smith SIMPSON and widow of Johnnie LANE.  She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Otto (Gladys) BATEMAN of Poplar Branch; three brothers, Marvin SIMPSON of Chesapeake, Va., Claud SIMPSON of Grandy, and Horace SIMPSON of Moyock.  Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at the graveside in West Lawn Memorial Park.  The Rev. Milton Lloyd LANE, JR., 65, of 108 Oakdale Drive, Moyock, NC died Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at his residence.  He was the son of the late Milton Lloyd LANE, SR. and Virginia Lee LANE. Mr. LANE served in the U.S. Army for six years, two of them in the Vietnam Conflict.  Mr. LANE is survived by a daughter, Virginia Marie LANE of Moyock, NC; three sons, Richard L. LANE and wife Alicia, Bobby G. LANE, and Michael L. LANE and wife Amber all of Moyock, NC; a brother, James W. LANE of Suffolk, VA; two sisters, Carol L. LANE of Winfall, NC and Andrea K. MOYOCK - William Joseph LANG, LT USN RET, age 81, of Moyock, NC, died in Rock Hill, South Carolina, at the home of his daughter, on Saturday, November 13, 2004. Born in Royal Oak, Michigan, he was the son of the late Edward Frank and Mae Agnes Lang LANG, and was the widow of the late Roxie Cook Franklin LANG. He was retired from the U.S. Navy as a Cryptologist, a graduate of North Western High School in Detroit, Michigan, a member of St. Katharine-Drexel Parrish in Moyock, NC, and a member of the Knights of Columbus, 4th degree. He served in the Navy during World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War.  Mr. LANG is survived by three daughters, Diane RUTHE of Moyock, NC, Sherron CANDELARIA of Mesa, AZ, and Jodi BARTHOLOMEW of Rock Hill, SC; two sons, William LANG of Rock Hill, SC, and Robert LANG of St. Matthews, SC; one brother Leonard "Bud" LANG of Citrus Heights, CA; thirteen grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren. He was a member of the American Society of Public Administration and the Unitarian-Universalist Congregation of the Outer Banks, Kitty Hawk, NC. KNOTTS ISLAND - Royce Alton LEARY, 76, passed away on November 19, 2011. Royce was born in North Carolina to the late John and Margaret LEARY. Royce and his wife had owned and ran Bluewater Seafood for 32 years. He retired from the Norfolk Ford Plant after 30 years, as well as having worked at the Sheriff's Department for 17 years. He belonged to the Blackwater Southern Baptist Church and was also a Deacon at Cava Church. Royce is predeceased by his daughter, Belvia SMITH; and brother, John LEARY. POWELLS POINT Patricia Ann Johnson LEATHERWOOD of Powell’s Point, NC has died at the age of 70. She was born on March 10, 1936 in Washington, D.C., the daughter of the late Vincent L. and Theresa M. JOHNSON and died on February 6, 2007 at the Chesapeake General Hospital. She is survived by her beloved husband, J. Charles LEATHERWOOD.  She is also survived by her daughter Teri Lee SAWYER of Spot, NC; sons David Craig GEMENY of Charlottesville, VA, Donald Vincent GEMENY of Branson, MO, and Daniel Ferguson GEMENY of Yorba Linda, CA, step-daughter Jeanne L. COOTE of Oviedo, FL, step-son John C. LEATHERWOOD of Southern Shores, NC and brother Craig Phillip JOHNSON of Gaithersburg, MD and nine grandchildren. She is also survived by her former husband Ferguson GEMENY, JR. of Petersburg, VA and her beloved dog Paco.  A service for Patricia will be held on Friday, February 9 at 6 p.m. at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Grandy, NC by Rev. David BLACKMAN. A reception at the church will be held immediately after the service.  She played many roles in life, but none more important than grannie, mother, and wife.   The family thanks the medical and nursing staff of the 4th floor ICU at Chesapeake General Hospital for their tireless efforts to give support and hope for her healing and recovery.  Arrangements are being handled by Twiford Funeral Homes, 405 E. Served a small period of time in the service. Bo loved the outdoors especially fishing. Spent most of his time working with his hands, carpentry was his specialty. GRANDY - Mrs. Edith Lupton LEWIS, age 62, of Grandy, NC died Monday, February 23, 2004, at her residence. James Mack LEWIS, SR., 78, of Jarvisburg, died Monday, Nov. 17 at his residence. He was a native of Currituck County, the son of the late Benjamin Walker and Carrie Caroline Evans LEWIS and the widower of Polly Ann Outlaw LEWIS. He was a self-employed carpenter. Survivors include two daughters; Diane MIDGETT of Jarvisburg and Lee LEWIS of Kitty Hawk; two sons: James Mack LEWIS, JR. and Raymond F. Melvin Robert LEWIS, SR., 74, of Maple, died Jan. 25 in Albemarle Hospital. He was a retired loading foreman for Camellia Foods and was a veteran in the U.S. Army. Priscilla Dozier LEWIS

Priscilla Dozier LEWIS, 68, died Saturday, March 26, 2011, at Chowan River Health and Rehabilitation Center in Edenton. She was born in Pasquotank County, the daughter of the late Charlie E. and Doris Forbes DOZIER and was the wife of Lester LEWIS of the residence at 300 Country Club Drive. Mrs. LEWIS was a retired educator having worked over 30 years, twenty eight of which were spent with the Edenton-Chowan School System at D.F. Walker Elementary and White Oak Elementary.  Surviving Mrs. LEWIS, other than her husband, is a son, Eric Todd LEWIS of Kill Devil Hills, NC; a brother, Charles E. DOZIER, JR, and his wife, Pat, of Jarvisburg, NC; and a granddaughter, Caitlyn Brianna LEWIS.  A Celebration of Mrs. LEWIS’ life will be at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, March 29, at the funeral home chapel with Rev. Roger COPE officiating. Burial will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery. KNOTTS ISLAND – Grover Lee LILLEY, 67, died November 2, 2014. Mr. LILLEY was born in Bath, NC to the late Elijah and Alice Harris LILLEY. He was a member of Church of Christ at Creeds where he had served as a deacon. Mr. LILLEY enjoyed gardening, fishing, country music and dances and helping at Martins Farm. He was predeceased by his wife, Leona LILLEY, grandchildren, Stephanie LILLEY and Robert Elijah CAFFEE; sisters, Irene HOWARD, Lula Mae BROWN, and Helen LILLEY.  Left to cherish his memory are his children, Sandra L. Elizabeth Marshall LINDSAY, 87, of Bell’s Island, Currituck, NC died Saturday, August 28, 2010 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Virginia Beach, VA.  Born in Norfolk, VA, she was the daughter of the late James Hubert MARSHALL and Elizabeth Richardson MARSHALL and the wife of the late William David LINDSAY.  She was an accounting clerk for the Naval Supply Center, Norfolk, VA until 1980.  During the fifties, she worked as a crafts instructor for the Home Demonstration Club in Currituck County.  She was a past member of the Tidewater Western Riders Association and a member of Coinjock Baptist Church.  She is survived by her son, Charles Louis WILLIAMSON and wife Pilar of Mexico, City, MX; her step-son, Randall David LINDSAY and wife Christine of Elizabeth City, NC; two step-grandchildren, Steven LINDSAY and Beth LINDSAY, both of Washington, DC, her brother Robert Lee MARSHALL and wife Phyllis of Virginia Beach, VA; her sister-in-law Francis Davis MARSHALL of Rural Retreat, VA; and many nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her brother James H. Nettie Harrell LINDSAY, 90, died Dec. 18, 1992, in a local hospital.  Mrs. LINDSAY was born in Moyock, N.C. She was the widow of John R. LINDSAY and was a Baptist. William David LINDSAY

William David LINDSAY, 94, of 111 Swan Drive, Currituck, NC died Saturday, June 26, 2010 at Marian Manor in Virginia Beach, VA. Born in Currituck County, NC, he was the son of the late David and Alline Vaughn LINDSAY and was the husband of Elizabeth “Gin” Marshall LINDSAY of the residence. Mr. LINDSAY was a veteran, having served in the United States Navy during World War II; he enlisted the day after the attack at Pearl Harbor. Following his time in the Navy, Mr. LINDSAY went to work for the federal government for twenty-nine years. During this time he was the assistant light keeper at Currituck Lighthouse; worked with the United States Coast Guard; and was the Chief Quarterman at Naval Amphibious Base, Little Creek. He was a member of the Currituck Masonic Lodge #463 AF&AM for over sixty years, and a member of Coinjock Baptist Church.   Along with his wife, Mr. LINDSAY is survived by his son, Randall David LINDSAY and wife Christine of Elizabeth City, NC; a stepson, Charles Louis WILLIAMSON and wife Pilar of Mexico City, Mexico; two grandchildren, Steven LINDSAY and Beth LINDSAY, both of Washington, DC; nephews, Wayne TWIFORD and Bill TATE, both of Coinjock, NC; and a niece, Alline AYDLETT of Grandy, NC. A homemaker, during her husband's military career she and her family traveled from North Carolina to Galveston, Texas, to Biloxi, Miss., to Boston, Mass., to Beaumont, Texas and then to Virginia Beach, Va. She participated in both the Coast Guard Officer's Wives Club and the American Legion Auxiliary, and greatly enjoyed gardening, cooking and spending time with her grandchildren. BARCO - Edna Walker LINDSEY, 100, of Caratoke Highway, died Friday, Sept. 22, 2006, at Sentara Barco Nursing Home. Mrs. LINDSEY was born Sept. 22, 1906, in the Maple community of Currituck County and was the daughter of the late John C. WALKER and Aleta Munden WALKER. She was preceded in death by her husband, Nathan LINDSEY; her daughter, Kathryn HAMPTON; and her son, Wade LINDSEY. She was a member of the Pilmoor United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and kept the nursery for many years. Mrs. LINDSEY enjoyed serving the community and helping others and her favorite past time was sewing. She worked in the cafeteria in the Currituck County school system for many years. Survivors include her daughter, Mary KIGHT and her husband Marshall of Barco; her son, Kenneth LINDSEY of Portsmouth; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Pilmoor United Methodist Church with the Rev. Scott WILSON-PARSONS and the Rev. Charles WELLONS officiating. Ramona O'Dell "Bessie" LINDSEY, 78, of 5618 Carotoke Hwy., Poplar Branch, entered into eternal rest on Monday, Oct. 21, 2013 in her residence.   She was born in Bertha, to the late John LINDSEY, JR. and Daisy White LINDSEY.  Raised in a Christian home she was a member of Macedonia Church of Christ Disciples of Christ in Poplar Branch.  She was a graduate of Currituck Union High School, Maple.   She leaves to cherish her memory, two sons, Lynne LINDSEY (Beverly) of Grandy, and Tracy LINDSEY (Tammy) of Moyock; two sisters, Mattie WOODLEY of Poplar Branch and Ray LeROAQUE (John) of Barco; one brother, Donald Ray LINDSEY of Poplar Branch. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be held on Sunday, Oct. 27, 2013 at 1 p.m. in  Macedonia Church of Christ Disciples of Christ, Poplar Branch, with Bishop Mack FRESHWATER, Elder T. J. MOYOCK - Ruth Creekmore LINDSEY, 85, died March 6 at Chesapeake, Va. General Hospital. She was born in Moyock, daughter of the late William "Will" Theodore and Pauline Flora CREEKMORE. She was predeceased by her husband, William B. LINDSEY, JR., and a sister, Lena C. POWERS. She was a lifelong member of Moyock United Methodist Church. She retired in 1979 after 20 years of teaching in Pasquotank, Camden and Currituck schools. She was a member of the National Education Association. Mrs. LINDSEY is survived by her daughter, Wanda Lindsey DANIELS and husband Bob of Williamsburg, Va.; her son, W. Wayne LINDSEY of Dallas, Texas; and 3 grandchildren. Funeral services were held March 11 in the Moyock Baptist Church with the Rev. Vic CULBERSON officiating. Burial followed in the Moyock Memorial Cemetery. IN JARVISBURG - Wesley Colemon LINDSEY, 65, died Saturday at his home here.  A funeral was to be conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Corinth Baptist Church by the Rev. CURRITUCK - William Burvell LINDSEY,  JR., 84, died Friday, March 15, 2002. He was born in Old South Norfolk to the late William Burvell LINDSEY, SR. and Hattie Snowden LINDSEY. He was the husband of Ruth Creekmore LINDSEY, having been married 59 years.  Mr. LINDSEY was retired from Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Portsmouth, with 39 years of service and was a World War II Navy veteran, having served in the Pacific Theatre for three years. He was also a veteran of the Korean War, a member of Moyock United Methodist Church and a former Ruritan. Besides his wife, Mr. LINDSEY is survived by a daughter, Wanda Lindsey DANIELS and husband Bob of Williamsburg; a son, W. Wayne LINDSEY of Dallas, Texas; a sister, Earldine Lindsey TREADWAY of Knotts Island, N.C.; three grandchildren, Blake DANIELS of Blacksburg, Va., Brad DANIELS and Suzanne DANIELS, both of Williamsburg. He was predeceased by two brothers, Carter LINDSEY and Frank LINDSEYA funeral will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Moyock United Methodist Church with the Rev. J. Victor CULBERSON officiating. Don Kent LINKENHOGER

AYDLETT Don Kent "Don-L" LINKENHOGER, 46, died April 20 in a Norfolk, Va. hospital. He was born in Richmond, Va., the son of Jesse LINKENHOGER and the late Betty Belangia LINKENHOGER. He was a Baptist. He drag raced up and down the East Coast in the early 1970's against such greats as John FORCE, Richard PETTY and Don PERDONE. He served his county as a Green Beret in Vietnam and was highly decorated. As years went on he focused on helping children. He served the youth of Tidewater through the Boy Scouts before his move to North Carolina. He was an Eagle Scout and a member of the Blue Heron Lodge Order of the Arrow. He was a member of American Legion Post #288 and Spurgeon Memorial Baptist Church. Besides his father he is survived by his wife, Mary Anne; three daughters: Jennifer LINKENHOGER of Virginia Beach, Alice STONE of Poplar Branch and Michelle LINKENHOGER of the home; two sons: Tom MUNFORD and Bryan LINGENHOGER of the home; two sisters: Wanda DUDLEY of Barco and Sharon HERTZ of Hopewell, Va.; and 2 grandchildren. A graveside service with military honors will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Laurel Memorial Cemetery in Poplar Branch. Twiford's Memorial Chapel in Elizabeth City is in charge. John M. LITCHFIELD, 84, died Jan. 8, 1996, in a Norfolk hospital.  He was a retired deck foreman for Norfolk and Western Railroad and a native of Knotts Island, N.C. He was the widower of Pauline H. LITCHFIELD.  He is survived by a sister, Martha SPICKARD of Norfolk; brother, W.R. Benjamin Franklin LITTLE, JR.

Benjamin Franklin “Frank” LITTLE, JR., 84, of Moyock, NC died Sunday, January 6, 2013 at Chesapeake Regional Medical Center.  Born in Pitt County, NC, he was the son of the late Benjamin Franklin and Stella Norman LITTLE and was the husband of Lula Faulkner LITTLE.  Mr. LITTLE was the co-owner of Highland Florist and retired from Norfolk Naval Shipyard as a foreman electrician after twenty-one years.  He was a member of Moyock Baptist Church.  Mr. LITTLE was also a member of Berkley Lodge 167 AF & AM in Chesapeake, VA and the Allied Florist Association.  He was a veteran of the United States Navy.  In addition to his wife, Mr. LITTLE is survived by a son, Alan Kent LITTLE of Virginia Beach, VA; three sisters, Louise PIERCE of Windsor, NC, Marjorie EVERETT of Winterville, NC and Jean CHERRY of Washington, NC; and five brothers, Norman F. LITTLE of Greenville, NC, W.C. “Bill” LITTLE of Winterville, NC, Marvin LITTLE of Greenville, NC, Maylon LITTLE and John LITTLE of Raleigh, NC.  A funeral service with Masonic Rites will take place Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Moyock Baptist Church with the Rev. MOYOCK - Allen David LOVELACE, 53, died Monday, Sept. 15, 2003 in his home.  Born in Raleigh, N.C., Mr. LOVELACE was the son of the late Robert and Phyllis Brafman LOVELACE. He was also predeceased by two sisters, Sue LOVELACE and Kathee LOVELACE. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and loved the outdoors.  Mr. LOVELACE is survived by his partner, Theresa COFFMAN of Moyock; his stepmother, Alice LOVELACE; his sister, Barbara BARKLEY of Chesapeake; a niece, Julie LALIBERTE of Portsmouth; three great-nephews, Kevin LALIBERTE, Aaron LALIBERTE and David ALLEN JR.; a great-niece, Ayla BARKLEY; and several stepbrothers and stepsisters.  A graveside service will be held at a later date in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens.  Services are under the care and direction of Oman Funeral Home & Crematory, Frances Gay Chapel.  Mr. LOVELACE was a soft-hearted, kind and loving man to everyone. Rosa Lee Sanderson LOWE, 69, of Tulls Creek Road, died Sunday, Nov. 6, 1994.  Mrs. LOWE was the daughter of the late Charles and Chloa White SANDERSON. She was a homemaker, a member of Moyock United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women, a member and past president of the Virginia Edwards Homemakers Club, active in the Moyock Ruritan Club and a member of the Senior Citizen Advisory Board for the county of Currituck.  Survivors include her husband, Sidney E. LOWE, SR.; three daughters, Patricia NORTH of Sacramento, Calif., Sharon TURLINGTON of Cary, N.C., Amy HIXON of Castle Rock, Colo.; a son, Sidney E. LOWE, JR. of Marshall, Va.; a sister, Norma MORGAN of Chesapeake; and two grandchildren.  A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Moyock United Methodist Church with the Rev. Sidney Edward LOWE, SR., 92, of 681 Tulls Creek Road, Moyock, NC died Saturday, August 7, 2010 at his residence.  Born in Norfolk, VA, he was the son of the late Dennis Crowder and Wilkie Taylor LOWE and was the husband of the late Rosa Lee Sanderson LOWE.  Mr. LOWE had worked as a crane operator at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard.  He was a member of Moyock United Methodist Church where he served in many capacities.  Mr. LOWE was actively involved with the Boy Scouts and Cubs Scouts and had belonged to the Order of the Arrow.  He was a member of the Moyock Ruritan Club and the New Lebanon Masonic Lodge 314 AF & AM.  Mr. LOWE is survived by his daughters, Sharon L. TURLINGTON and husband Donald of Cary, NC and Amy D. HIXON and husband Dane of Castle Rock, CO; a son, Sidney E. LOWE, JR. and wife Carolyn of Moyock, NC; grandchildren, Sgt. Joshua TURLINGTON and Danielle HIXON; and his great grandson, Dylan TURLINGTON.  In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia L. Ruby Pritchard LOWRY, 89, formerly of West Church Street Extended, Elizabeth City, NC died Thursday, August 5, 2010 at Cypress Glen Retirement Facility in Greenville, NC.  Mrs. LOWRY, daughter of the late George Edward PRITCHARD and Elcena Carver PRITCHARD, was the widow of Theotis Freshwater “Doc” LOWRY.  She was a member of First United Methodist Church.  She graduated from Elizabeth City High School and attended Women’s College of U.N.C.  She was a member of the Elizabeth City Lion’s Club and Past President, Museum of Albemarle and a volunteer, Albemarle Hospital Auxiliary and a volunteer in the Coffee shop, Matoaca Council # 10 Degree of Pocahontas, NC Genealogical Society, and the Pasquotank County Historical and Genealogical Society.  She was a homemaker who lovingly took care of her children and grandchildren.  She is survived by three daughters, Yvonne L. BROWN and husband Larry of Greensboro, NC, Annette L. MARROW of Greenville, NC and Terri L. Gertrude LOWTHROP

COINJOCK - Gertrude "Trudy" LOWTHROP, age 86, was born March 26, 1918, in Elizabeth City.  She was the daughter of the late Willie RIGGS and Pearl Forbes GODFREY.  Trudy died peacefully Friday, February 11, 2005, at he daughter's home in Billings, Montana,  In North Carolina, Trudy was educated, raised her family, and worked as a bookkeeper at Cyrstal Ice and Coal.  She was a member of Elizabeth Rebekah Matoaco Council #10, Senior Citizens, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary in Elizabeth City.  Trudy moved to Montana to live with her daughter, Jean Carrol, in 2000.  She became a member of Laurel Federated Woman's Club and Evergreen Rebekah Lodge #86.  While living in Montana, Trudy loved to socialize and accompany her daughter to various GFWC of Montana activities.  In addition to her club meetings, she enjoyed playing poker and bingo, and loved to visit her friends at the Laurel Bus Depot.  Trudy was preceded in death by her mother and father; her brother and sister-in-law, Abner and Janie RIGGS; her husband, James LOWTHROP; and her son, Douglas MORRIS.  She is survived by her daughter, Jean Carrol and husband Keith THOMPSON; her daughter Sarah and husband Mickey THOMPSON of Alabama; her daughter-in-law, Gwynn MORRIS of North Carolina; her sister, Marjorie RIGGS of South Carolina; her niece, Alisa and husband Kenny CARPENTER of Virginia Beach, Va.; her nephew Buddy RIGGS and wife Renee of North Carolina; 8 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.  Funeral services will be held Friday, February 18 at 11:00 in Twiford's Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Joseph W. LUBRECHT

POPLAR BRANCH - Joseph W. LUBRECHT, 63, of 137 Danruth Lane, Poplar Branch, NC died Tuesday, January 31, 2006, in the Chesapeake General Hospital. He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late Albert J. and Mary Mulfeather LUBRECHT and was the husband of Sarah Bruce LUBRECHT.  Mr. LUBRECHT was project coordinator for Randy’s Appliance Service and was a member of St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, Maple, NC.  Besides his wife, Mr. LUBRECHT is survived by a daughter, Jennifer L WEINBERG and husband, Al of Everett, Michigan, three sons, Joseph W. LUBRECHT, JR. and wife, Trish, of Cleveland, Ohio, Robert LUBRECHT of Covington, Kentucky and Thomas LUBRECHT and wife, Lynne, of Walton, Kentucky. He is also survived by a step-son, Kevin COZORT of South Bend, Indiana; three sisters, Catherine SCHUTTE and husband, Bill, Lois SRISSIGER and husband, Joe, all of Fort Mitchell, Kentucky and Patricia PULVER of Poplar Branch, North Carolina and six grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, February 4, 2006, at 10:00am in the St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, Maple, NC by the Very Rev. James BUCHOLZ, VF. POWELLS POINT - Ava Elizabeth LUCK, the beloved daughter of William and Rebecca LUCK, came into this world and quietly left to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 3, 2006.  Ava is survived by her parents; her maternal grandparents, Diane SAWYER and William DOBNEY; her paternal grandfather, William HENSON. Henrietta M. LUCKMAN

Henrietta M. LUCKMAN, 80, died suddenly Sunday at 7:30 a.m. after a short illness.  She was born in Newry, Northern Ireland, but had lived in Currituck Co. for the past two years.  She is survived by her husband Horace LUCKMAN, and one daughter, Mrs. C.L. PEARSON of Currituck.  Mrs. LUCKMAN was the daughter of the late Anne Jane MacCORMICK and Thompson COOKE.  She was a member of an Episcopal church in Florida.  Other survivors include two granddaughters, Mrs. John S. MADDOCK of New York and Mrs. Robert HILL of San Francisco.  Funeral services will be conducted at the Twiford Chapel in Elizabeth City, Tuesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. G.F. Gail A. LUCY

MOYOCK - Gail A. LUCY, 47, of 1317 Tulls Creek Road, died Feb. 28, 2007, at her residence. She was born in Wayne County, Michigan, the daughter of Janet AKAYSA of Taylor, Mich., and the late Horace HOCKING. She was the wife of Fred OSTERBECK. She was a "property claim trainer" with State Farm Insurance and was an avid supporter of the Currituck County Band Boosters and active in I.C.A.R. Besides her husband and mother, Mrs. LUCY is survived by two daughters, Rebecca LUCY of Moyock and Farah GONZALEZ of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; three sons, James LUCY of Fort Bragg, N.C., Eric OSTERBECK of St. Clair Shores, Mich., and Ryan OSTERBECK of San Jose, Calif.; one brother, Thomas HOCKING of Pennsylvania; and three grandchildren. A memorial service will be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Moyock Baptist Church by the Rev. Vic RAMSEY. Mary Frances LUMSDEN

MOYOCK Mary Frances "Fran" LUMSDEN, 66, died Sept. 22 in her residence. She was a native of North Carolina. Survivors include her husband, Henry Gregory LUMSDEN; six daughters: Fred CAMPBELL of Hagerstown, Md., Gloria ATKINS of Pennsylvania, Peggy CORRIHER of Virginia Beach, Linda CAMPBELL of Manteo, Jackie CAMPBELL of Pennsylvania and Daisy BOCK of Chesapeake; 7 grandchildren and a great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sheila ROGERS. A private service will be conducted on Tuesday in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Bridge Chapel, is in charge. Barbara Bunch LUNDINE

GRANDY - Barbara Bunch LUNDINE, age 59, of Grandy, NC, died Sunday, October 17,, in Guardian Care Nursing Home, Elizabeth City, NC. She was a native of Norfolk, VA, and was the daughter of the late Allie BUNCH and Pat BUNCH, and was the wife of Wayne Eugene LUNDINE of the residence. She worked as a cook for the Avalon and Kitty Hawk Piers.  Besides her husband she is survived by on son, Robbie MASON of Waynesboro, VA, and one grandchild.   A memorial service will be Friday, October 22, 2004, at 11:00 AM, with the Rev. Eugene McLAWHORN officiating. Burial will be in Laurel Memorial Gardens Cemetery at a later date. COLINGTON - Wayne Eugene LUNDINE, JR., 42, died Sunday, January 20 in Elizabeth City.  Mr. LUNDINE was born in Corpus Christi, Texas to Wayne Eugene LUNDINE, SR. and the late Mamie Lee Buck LUNDINE.  He worked as a carpenter and was a Protestant.  Besides his father, he is survived by his companion, Patsy AUSTIN; one daughter, Kimberly LUNDINE of Colington; two sons: Michael LUNDINE of Colington and David Wayne LUNDINE of Texas; one sister, Teresa LUNDINE of Hollywood, Fla.; and step-mother, Barbara LUNDINE of Grandy.  A memorial service will be held at Powells Point Baptist Church at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23 with the Rev. Wayne Eugene LUNDINE [SR.]

HOLLYWOOD, FLA. - Retired ADR2 Wayne Eugene LUNDINE, 75, died Oct. 15, 2005. He was born Aug. 18, 1930, in Seattle, Wash., and was the son of the late Mauritz LUNDINE and Hazel Woods LUNDINE. He retired from the U.S. Navy Jan. 1, 1983, with the rank of aviation machinist’s mate second class. He was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association No. 293 and the Coinjock American Legion Post No. 338. Survivors include his daughter, Teresa LUNDINE of Hollywood and two grandchildren, Kimberly LUNDINE and Michael LUNDINE, both of Grandy, N.C. He was preceded in death by two sons, Wayne LUNDINE, JR. and Kirk LUNDINE. A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Twiford Memorial Chapel, 405 E. Church St., Elizabeth City, N.C. with Eugene McLAWHORN officiating. Military honors will be rendered by the U.S. Navy. Annie Jo Deaton LUPTON

GRANDY- Annie Jo Deaton LUPTON, 75, of the 100 block of Barnard Road, died June 18, 2006, at the Albemarle Hospital in Elizabeth City. Mrs. LUPTON was born in Tuscaloosa, Ala., daughter of the late Sam and Annie Mink DEATON and was the wife of Elwood T. "ET" LUPTON of the residence. She was a graduate of Old Dominion University at age 48 with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and taught school in Portsmouth for 17 years. She was also a Lutheran. Besides her husband, Mrs. LUPTON is survived by one daughter, Jacqueline L. NOEL and husband Gary of Richmond, Va.; one son, Jerry T. LUPTON and wife Kathy of Chesapeake; and two grandchildren, Brian NOEL and Lauren LUPTON. She was predeceased by one son, Dewey Eugene LUPTON. A funeral will be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Poplar Branch Baptist Church and officiated by the Rev. Bill THORN. Burial will follow at Laurel Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and at other times at the residence. Twiford’s Memorial Chapel, 405 E. POPLAR BRANCH - James Edward LUPTON, JR., 51, of Poplar Branch, NC died Sunday, August 29, 2004, at Duke University Medical Center, Durham, NC. Mr. LUPTON was the son of the late James Edward and Mildred Lewark LUPTON and the husband of Cathy Simpson LUPTON. He was employed with Narrows Island Club and attended the Poplar Branch Baptist Church.  Besides his wife, Mr. LUPTON is survived by a daughter, Kelly LUPTON of Virginia Beach, VA; and one sister, Opal BEASLEY of Colington, NC.  Graveside services will be conducted Thursday, September 2, 2004, at 2:00pm in Laurel Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Poplar Branch, NC by Rev. Janie Gallop LUPTON

GRANDY - Janie Gallop LUPTON, 93, of 102 Dowdy’s Bay Road, Grandy, NC, died at her residence on Saturday, June 3, 2006. Born in Harbinger, NC, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin D. and Jane Wilkins GALLOP, and the widow of Joseph Elwood LUPTON. Mrs. LUPTON was a former caregiver in an assisted living home, and a member of Powells Point Christian Church.  Mrs. LUPTON is survived by: four daughters, Shelby Snell LANGLEY of Grandy, NC, Dawn DAIL of Pensacola, Fl, Jackie DAIL of Elizabeth City, NC, and Faye JENNINGS of Colorado Springs, CO; nine grandchildren; twenty six great grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren. Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by one daughter Geraldine PRITCHARD.  A funeral service will be conducted Wednesday, June 7, 2006 at 2:00 PM in Powells Point Christian Church in Harbinger, NC, and officiated by Pastor Dave COXSON. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, June 6, from 7:00 to 8:30 PM at the funeral home. The family will be at the residence at other times. Joseph Elwood LUPTON

Joseph Elwood LUPTON, 80, of Dowdy's Bay Road, a retired machinist, died Aug. 3, 1990, in his home. Mr. LUPTON, a native of Currituck, had retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. He was a fishing and hunting guide.  Survivors include his wife, Janie Gallop LUPTON; three daughters, Dawn DAIL of Pensacola, Fla., Fay JENNINGS of Colorado and Jackie DAIL of Elizabeth City; a step-daughter, Shelby LANGLEY of Grandy; a brother, Willie LUPTON of Virginia Beach; seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.  The graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in Powells Point Christian Church Cemetery by the Rev. Eugene William LYNCH

POWELLS POINT - Eugene “Gene” William LYNCH, age 72, of Powells Point, NC, died Sunday, September 26, 2004, at his residence. He was a native of Bronx, NY, and was the son of the late Edward LYNCH and Mary Quinn LYNCH.  Mr. LYNCH had been a resident of the Powells Point community since 1994, and was a retired carpenter with the State of New York.  Survivors include his wife; Eileen Ann Farrell LYNCH; three sons, Gene LYNCH and his wife Wendi of Lake Carmel, NY, Edward LYNCH and his wife Tensy of Croton on the Hudson, NY, James LYNCH and his wife Lauren of Spring, TX.; and eight grandchildren.  He was predeceased by one sister, Winifred Lynch MOLONEY.  A memorial service will be held on Wednesday September 29, 2004, at 1:30 P. M. at the Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 301 West Kitty Hawk Road, Kitty Hawk, NC, 27949, with Deacon Don WOBSER officiating.  A memorial service will be held in Carmel, NY. at a later date. Lawrence Melvin LYONS

Lawrence Melvin LYONS, ``Captain Lawrence,'' age 60, Shawboro, died Saturday, Nov. 19, 1994.  He was a native of Suffolk and a tug boat captain. He was an associate member of the Chapel on the Sound in Hertford.  He was the son of the late James Colman LYONS and Rosa Etters Lyons EDWARDS and the husband of Sarah McGowan LYONS of the home. Besides his wife, Mr. LYONS is survived by a daughter, Cristy Lea LYONS of the home, and one son, Mack LAWRENCE.  The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Twiford's Memorial Chapel, Church Street, Elizabeth City.  (The Virginian-Pilot – November 22, 1994; pg.
