1 May 1870 - 1 Oct 1870 - John R. CHERRY, orphan of Willis CHERRY, in account with B.C. BELL, guardian.  Amount due ward $241.59

Winter Term 1874 - George SNOWDEN, guardian of Willis CHERRY states that last Spring 1873 he qualified as guardian to Willis CHERRY and there came into his hands about $500.00.  Said ward is about 13 years of age and the interest from the principal  is not enough to board, clothe and pay the school tuition.  SNOWDEN asks that the Court grant him an order to encroach upon the principal in such sums as he may deem sufficient for his ward's ordinary expenses.  /s/ P.H. MORGAN, Solicitor for Petitioner.  [The Court granted the order but the expenditure from the principal may not exceed $100.00 for any one year.]

NOTE:  Willis Cherry married a Dorcas before 1850.  He then married Polly Harris in Currituck County on Sept. 8, 1859.  In 1860 Willis Cherry, age 41, is listed by himself in the Indian Ridge District although it states that he was married during the census year.  Martha age 10, John R. age 6, and Sophia Cherry age 3 are all living with the John Doxey family and are more than likely children from his marriage to Dorcas.
