Deed Book 34

[Deed Book 34, pg. 86-87] I John SIMPSON of the County of Currituck in the State of North Carolina, am indebted to Caroline VAN SLYCK of Currituck County in said State in the said sum of fifty Dollars for which she holds me to be due on the 24th day of December 1877, and to secure the payment of the same I do hereby convey to her these articles of Personal Property to wit Three cattle one Boat all my House hold and Kitchen property and all my moveable property.  But on this special trust That if I fail to pay said debt and interest on or before the 10th day of January AD 1878 then she may sell said property or so much thereof as may be necessary by Public Auction for cash, first giving twenty days notice at three public places and apply the proceeds of such sale to the discharge of said debt and interest on the same and pay any surplus to me...24th day of Dec 1878. s/ John [x] SIMPSON {seal}.
