Feb. 26, 1816
    Ordered that James Etheridge be allowed the sum of $27 for board for Samuel Walker orphan of Thos. Walker dec'd. to be paid William Owens the adm'r. to be allowed with the said Estate of Thos. Walker dec'd.
    Ordered that Josiah Jolliff Esqr., Thomas Baxter, Isaac Baxter & Augustus Linton be appointed commissioners to lay off allott & set apart unto Frances Wilson widow of Simeon Wilson dec'd. so much of the Crop Stock & provision which were of the said dec'd. as shall be sufficient for the said widow & family one year under an act of assembly in such cases made & provided and make report to This Present Term.

Feb. 27, 1816
    Ordered that Lemuel Wilson have the right of adm'r. debonis non on the Estate of Gideon Marchant dec'd. be committed to Lemuel Wilson who Qualified as such & entered into bond with Brickhouse Bell & Peter Morse securities in the sum of 2000 pounds.
    Ordered that Thomas C. Ferebee be appointed Guardian to Polly Carvan daughter of Thos. Carvan who entered into bond with Thomas Bray & Brickhouse Bell securities in the sum of 100 Pounds.
    The last will & Testament of Wallis Bray dec'd. was exhibited in open court & proved by the oath of David Jones a subscribing witness thereto at the same time Thomas Bray the Exor. therein named Qualified as such.
    Ordered that Caleb Sanderson be appointed Guardian to his own children to wit Jesse, Patsey, Edmund, Allmon & Nancy Sanderson who entered into bond with Saml. Salyear & Jesse Barnard securities in the sum of 3000 pounds.

Feb. 28, 1816
    Ordered that Samuel Salyear be appointed Guardian to Sally Sanderson also Sally Dobee daughter of Charlotte Dolbee who entered into bond with Andrew Duke & Spence Oneal securities in the sum of 300 pounds.
    Ordered that Jesse Sawyer be appointed Guardian to Daniel Padrick dec'd.who entered into bond with Caleb Tolor and Benjamin Parker securities in the sum of 2000 pounds.  [NOTE:  I think who ever recopied this left a line out . . should be Daniel Padrick, son of Daniel Padrick, dec'd.  . . . It appears that all of these books were recopied in 1829.  I have come across "Transcribed This the 26th day Oct 1929" at the end of a section many times.

    Ordered that Lydia Parker be allowed the sum of fifteen pounds for the maintenance of a Bastard child begotten on her body by Enoch Dozier to be paid in equal quarterly payments by the said Enoch Dozier.

Feb. 29, 1816
  On hearing the petition of Matilda Sawyer widow of Jacob Sawyer, dec'd.  It is ordered that Thomas Poyner, Wm. Lumm, Caleb Chaplain & Edmund Gray be appointed commissioners to lay off allot & set apart unto Matilda Barnard Sawyer widow of Jacob Sawyer Junr. dec'd as much of the crop stock & provision which were of the said dec'd. as shall be sufficient for the maintenance of the said widow & family for one year under an act of assembly in such cases made & provided & make report thereof to next court.  NOTE:  I have included the name Barnard that was marked through because this might be a clue to her identity.  Matilda Lindsey (daughter of Jonathan and Amy Burfoot Lindsey) married Jesse Barnard.  She would be the right age to have married Jacob Sawyer.  She also had a sister Dorcas, thus I wonder if she is the Dorcas who was married to Jacob's brother, Simeon.  After Simeon's death, Dorcas married Daniel Lindsey, Jr., son of David & Elizabeth Russell Lindsey.  Sisters marrying brothers was fairly common.  Does anyone have anything on Jonathan and Amy's daughters?  If so, please direct your e-mail to Jean Schroeder.

    The last will & Testament of John Jarvis, dec'd. was exhibited in open court & proved by the oath of John T. Hampton the only witness at the same time John Jarvis Exor. therein named Qualified as such.
    Ordered that the Exor. of John Jarvis senr. dec'd. sell such property as is directed by . . . .
    Ordered that Hosea Ball, William Ball, John T. Hampton & Samuel Philips be appointed commissioners to appraise & divide the Personal Estate of John Jarvis sen'r. dec'd. according to the Last will & Testament of the said John Jarvis senr. dec'd. & make report there of to next court.
    Ordered that William B. Etheridge have the right of admr. on the Estate of Nathan Etheridge dec'd who entered into bond with Edmund Daily & John Clark securities in the sum of 1,000 pounds &c.
    Ordered that Samuel Salyear sen'r., Samuel Salyear jun'r., Thomas Poyner & Spence Daniel or any 3 of them audit & settle the accounts of Lovey Tillett adm'r. of Lemuel Tillett Etheridge dec'd. orphan of Jesse Etheridge dec'd. making report there at the next court.

    The Last Will & Testament of Southard Waterfield dec'd was exhibited in open court & proved by the oath of Malachi Jones one of the subscribing witnesses at the same time Henry Beasley Excr. therein named qualified as such.
    Ordered that the Exor.of Southard Waterfield dec'd sell.
    Ordered that Edith Etheridge have the right of adm'r. on the Estate of Peter Etheridge dec'd. who qualified as such & entered into bond with Edward Garrett & Mathias Etheridge securities in the sum of 500 pounds.
    Ordered that Charles Griggs have the right of adm'r. on the Estate of Thomas Griggs who qualified as such & entered into bond with Samuel Salyear Jun'r. & George Griggs securities in the sum of 500 pounds.
    On motion & argument ordered that Thomas B. Jarvis be removed from his Guardianship of John, Jesse, Dolly & Sally Mercer orphans of Malachi Mercer dec'd. he having failed giving sufficient security & ordered that William P. Mercer be appointed Guardian to the same orphans of Malachi Mercer dec'd. who entered into bond with  Jeremiah Perkins & Cornelius Mercer securities in the sum of 500 pounds for each orphan.

Ordered that John Cox be appointed Guardian to Wilson & Kader Ballentine orphans of Joseph Ballentine Jun'r. dec'd who entered into bond with Demcy Northern & Thomas Luffman securities in the sum of 700 pounds for each orphan.
    Ordered that Jesse Sanderson son of John Sanderson dec'd be placed & bound & apprenticed to Samuel Salyear Jun'r. until he arrives to the age of 21 years he being about 16 years of age to learn the art & ministry of a Blacksmith.  If the said apprentice can not be Governed by the Said Samuel Salyear on moderate correction & administration then the said Salyear shall be at liberty to surrender the said Jesse Sanderson to the County Court & Therewith to be released from this Indenture.
    Ordered that Burrus Mathias have the right of admr. on the Estate of Samuel Salyear dec'd. who entered into bond with [blank space] securities in the sum of 200 pounds.
    Ordered that William Jarvis orphan of Samuel Jarvis dec'd. be placed & bound an apprentice to Thomas Gray until he arrives to the age of 21 years he being now about 14 years old to learn the Trade of a shoe maker and to have Six months schooling.
    Ordered that Samuel Salyear, Junr., Samuel Salyear Senr., Thomas Poyner & Jesse Barnard or any 3 of them audit & settle the accounts of Lovey Tillett as admr. of Lemuel Tillett Etheridge, dec'd. orphan of Jesse Etheridge dec'd. with the said dec'd. Estate & make report thereof to court.
    Ordered that the same men audit and settle the accounts of Lovey Tillett, Guardian of the orphans of Jesse Etheridge dec'd. with Thomas Tillett, Exor. of Samuel Tillett, dec'd. who were the Guardian in right of his wife Love to the sd. Nancy & Jemimah Etheridge orphan aforesaid and make report there of the next court.

    Ordered that Benjamin Sparrow son of Millison Sparrow be placed & bound as an apprentice to Mathew O'Neal until he arrives to the age of 21 years he being now about 10 years . . to learn the Ships Carpenters Trade.
    Ordered that James Melson be appointed Guardian to his children William, Sampson, Elijah, and James Melson his own sons who entered into bond with William Lunn, Spence H. Gregory securities in the sum of one hundred pounds for each.
    Ordered Polly & Director Patterson children of Jacob Patterson be placed & bound an apprentice to Daniel Sanderson until they arrive to the age of 21 years, Polly 9 years & Director 7 years or there abouts to Learn a womans Employment was entered into bond with [left blank] securities in the sum of 500 pounds for each apprentice.

    Ordered that Kesiah Whitehurst have the right of admr. on the Estate of James Whitehurst dec'd. who has entered into bond with Jesse Miller & Robert Etheridge securities in the sum of 250 pounds.
    Ordered that Samuel Robinson be appointed Guard. to Mary, Gideon & Johnson Marchant orphans of Gideon Marchant dec'd. who entered into bond with Thomas C. Ferebee & Thomas Sanderson securities in the sum of 300 pounds for each orphan.
    Ordered that William Halstead have the right of admr. on the Estate of Nancy Ball dec'd. who entered into bond with Josiah Fulford & Thomas C. Casey securities in the sum of 200 pounds.
    Ordered that W. Halstead by appointed Guardian to Nathan Halstead orphan of Nathan Halstead dec'd. who entered into bond with Josiah Joliff & Thomas C. Casey security in the sum of 100 pounds.

    Ordered that Reuben Taylor, Samuel O'Neal, Thos. Simmons & Robert White be appointed patrollers in the Cowenjock district for the present year and that they act therein according to an act of the Assembly.

August 28,  1816
    Ordered that Thomas Poyner, Thomas Sanderson, Caleb Forbes, Hillary Bell and Samuel Salyear or any 3 of them audit & settle the accounts of Spence H. Gregory admr. in right of his wife Lovey the admr. of Jehu Hall dec'd. & make report thereof to next court.
    On hearing the petition of Jacob Aydelott admr. in right of his wife Mary who were the admr. of Thomas Mercer, Jun'r. dec'd.   It is ordered that Jacob Aydelott, adm'r. in right of his wife Mary on the Estate of Thomas Mercer Jun'r. dec'd.  ____ sell on a credit of six months as many of the negroes as shall be sufficient to pay the outstanding debts which remain unpaid.

November 25,  1816
    Ordered that Caleb Toler Esqr. be appointed to take the private Examination of Elizabeth Liverman wife of Isaac Liverman concerning her free consent in writing ___ deed made by her and husband made to Enoch Forbes & make report.
    Ordered that Robert Charlton be appointed Guardian to Timothy, Martha, Dennis, Elizabeth, Polly and James Gregory orphans of Mitchel Gregory dec'd. who entered into bond with James Powers & Jacob Powers securities in the sum of two hundred pounds each.
    Ordered that Willis Gallop renew his bond as a comm'r. of wrecks for the present year who entered into bond with Joseph Ferebee and Andrew Duke securities in the sum of 2000 pounds.
    Ordered that Barnabee Beasley be appointed overseer of the public road on Kittyhawk Banks for the present year in the room & stead Hugh Gallop, dec'd. the late overseer & that he act therein according to Law in such cases made & provided.
    Ordered that Joseph Ferebee Esqr., Thomas C. November 26,  1816
    Ordered that John Dowdy have the right of adm'r. on the Estate of William Dowdy dec'd. who qualified as such and entered into bond with Wm. Caffee & Charles Griggs securities in the sum of $600.
    Ordered that Jeremiah Perkins be allowed the sum of $48 for Bording & cloathing of Jesse Lee orphan of Philip & Elizabeth Lee dec'd. and that David Jones Exor. of Elizabeth Lee dec'd. pay the same to the said Perkins and that it be a voucher for him in the settlement of his a/c with Estate of his Testator.
    Ordered that administration on the Estate of John Baxter dec'd. be granted to Samuel Ferebee & Sally Baxter his widow having relinquished her right of the same to him who entered into bond with Daniel Lindsey, Junr. & Thomas Baxter securities in the sum of 200 pounds.
    Ordered that Seth Halstead be appointed Guardian to Henry Ballentine, Patsey, Sally, Melisa, Levinar, John, Jordan and Lovey Ballentine orphans of Henry Ballentine dec'd. who entered into bond with John Glassgow & Jordan Dozier securities in the sum of 400 pounds for each orphan.
    Ordered that Jesse Sawyer Guardian of Lemuel Russell orphan of Lemuel Russell dec'd. sell a certain negro boy Cuff the property of his said ward out of the Estate and that he purchase with the proceeds thereof another slave for his said ward & make return of such sale to next court.
    On hearing the petition of Jos. Ward an illegitimate child of Frances Ward als Nicholson by Josiah Nicholson his next friend praying that the name of the ward may be changed for that of Nicholson.  Ordered that the said ward from henceforth hail & be known by the name of James Nicholson, Jun'r. and that he be bound by that name in all his acts according to an act of assembly.
