Monday, 27th Feby. 1809
Court met according to course.
    Present Lamb Taylor, Andrew Duke & Jehu Hall Esqrs.

The Grand Jury to wit John Mackie Foreman, Hosea Ball, Wm. Brabble, Jacob Perkins, Philip Northern, James Poyner, Joshua Ball, Levi Poyner, Joseph Simmons, John Ballance, Peter Parker, Thos. Gray, Dorey Dauge, James Hughes, Leml. Sanderson, Impanld & Sworn. George Howard Constable.
Ordered that Mary Davis have the right of admr. on the estate of Mark Davis decd. who gave bond with John Chaplin & Luke Gregory in 2000 pounds & qualified & that she sell &c.
Ordered that Edwd. Hollowell have the right of admr. on the estate of Wm. Hollowell decd. who gave bond with Geroge Howard & Saml. Salyear Sen. of 100 pounds & qualified.
Ordered that the admr. of Wm. Hollowell sell &c.
Ordered that Edwd. Hollowell have the right of admr. on the estate of Saml. Hollowell decd. who gave bond with George Howard & Saml. Salyear decd. in 100 pounds.
Ordered that Saml. Hollowell admr. sell &c.
Ordered that L. W. Hall, Zo. Harrison, Spence Chaplain & Luke Gregory...audit & settle the accts. of Jehu Hall admr. of Nathan Green decd. &c.

28 Feb. 1809
Ordered that Jesse Taylor, John White, W. Simpson & Th. Bray audit & settle the acct. of Peter Whitehurst admr. of the estate of Letitia White dec. with said estate & make return.

29 May 1809
Ordered Wilson and Elise, twins of mixed blood, bound to Sidney Perkins. Wilson to learn farming and Elise the trade of a spinster.
William Sikes (7 or 8) boy of mixed blood, bound to William Quidley to learn the trade of a pilot.
Ordered that John Chaplin be guardian to Henry Chaplin orphan James Chaplin decd. who gave bond with Thomas Gibson & Dan'l. Dunton in 500 pounds.

31 May 1809
Ordered Abraham Brown (15) and Patsey Brown (14) bound to Jonathan Lindsey and wife to learn the trades of a farmer and spinster.
Ordered Isom Brown (12) , free person of color, bound to William Gray and wife to learn farming.
Ordered Betsey Dough, orphan of Gideon Dough, bound to John Dough and his wife, Sally.

01 June 1809
Ordered that the right of administration on the estate of Abel Ashbee Esq. decd. be granted to Solomon Ashbee, his mother Polly, the widow having relinquished in their favor who gave bond with Sam'l. Jarvis & Thomas Barnard in 10,000 pounds.  And that they sell &c.

02 June 1809
Ordered Julia Dennis, colored daughter of Pale Dennis, bound to Stephen Pickett and wife.

30 August 1809
On argument, ordered that the order of the last court by which William Stow, boy of color, was bound to William Quidley is hereby appealed and released. Stow hereby bound to Hezekiah Farrow to learn the trade of a ship carpenter.
Ordered that David Olds have leave to keep an ordinary at his own home, who gave bond with Jehu Hall & Fred'k. Dough in 100 pounds

27 November 1809
Ordered that Solomon Ashbee, administrator of Abel Ashbee, sell on a credit of 6 months, slaves Pomp, Pleasant, and James to pay estate debts.
Ordered that James Melson have the right of ad'm. on the estate of Jean Mellson dec'd. who gave bond with Sam'l Gregory & Bowen Green securities for 300 pounds  [Note from Jean Schroeder:: She [Jean Mellson] was the wife of William Melson (b. ca 1749 in Sussex Co. MD).  They were married 2 Feb 1770 in DE.  Her daughter Polly was the wife of Bowen Green.  Her daughter Elizabeth was the wife of Lemuel Gregory.]
Ordered that Simeon Sawyer be appointed guardian to Stephen, William, Asa, Barthana & Elizabeth Westcoat orphans of Stephen Westcoat, dec'd. who gave bond with Caleb Etheridge & Solomon Ashbee in 500 pounds for each orphan.
Ordered that Thomas Poyner be appointed guardian to Lydia, Sally, Suanna, William & Mahala Jarvis orphans of Thomas Jarvis (BS) dec'd. who gave bond with Dan'l Lindsey & Edw'd. Hardy in 500 pounds each.

29 November 1809
Ordered
that Charlotte White be appointed guar'd. to Malachi, Henry, Solomon, orphans of Solomon White dec'd., who entered into bond of 200 pounds for each orphan.  [Note from Jean Schroeder: They had two daughters, Polly and Letitia, who are not mentioned here, so they must have not been minors in Nov 1809.]

1 Dec 1809
Ordered that Solomon Ashbee be appointed guardian to Wm. Ashbee orphan of Abel Ashbee dec'd.; who entered into bond with Thomas Williams & Edw'd. Hardy in 1,000 pounds.
