| The Thompson Family Cemetery is located
in Columbus County, North Carolina, near the
city limits of Whiteville. It is a few hundred yards north of the
intersection of Thompson Town Road (SR 1428) and Saw
Mill Lane (SR 1458). The cemetery was on the agricultural
holdings of the Thompson family who moved to
Columbus County, NC from Wayne County, NC in the first half of the 19th
century. At the time of the survey, 2/2/2002, the
Cemetery is surrounded by a sawmill on the
southwest and a small vineyard on the northeast. The Latitude/Longitude
is 34 degrees 18.415 minutes north by 78 degrees 44.228
minutes west. The survey was done in
linear rows starting in the northeast corner, moving then to the
southwest, and then back for the next row. All
burials are noted as well as all
inscriptions that are readable on all stones. The survey was completed
by Johanna Farmer, Keith Farmer, and Lynette Farmer all
