MAP OF CLEVELAND COUNTY

CLEVELAND COUNTY, NC, TOWNSHIPS

Cleveland County is divided into eleven townships, which are both numbered and named:

Regarding Cleveland Co. townships and what they included, here is what I have gleaned from censuses, newspapers, PO lists, and maps.  Some of the names and areas changed over time too.  In fact, names associated with the townships came from geographic features, post offices and sometimes old tax or militia districts named after the captain of the district in the past.   Remember, this is just a guide.

If you have access to the Kiser map from the 1880s, you can see the townships drawn in and see where many of the folks lived at the time.  [Note:  ED=enumeration district]
