WILLIS CEMETERY This cemetery is located in No. 10 Township, Cleveland County, N.C. 18 miles north of Shelby and 3 ½ miles northwest of Belwood, N.C., also situated on the south side of Belwood-Casar Road, a distance of about ½ mile. It is near Julius Buff on the north and Gaston Spurling on the west. Owner of Cemetery: Gaston Spurling Number of marked graves: 10 Before 1914: 10 After 1914: None Unmarked graves: 80 Earliest marked grave: Sarah Newton, d. June 15, 1845 Condition: The cemetery has been abandoned, although ten markers remain. Large trees have been cut on the cemetery plot 8 x 16 x 25 feet long. At the head of David Willis' and wife's graves are two cedar trees. Mr. Capas G. Richard, aged 70 a native of this community, states that in the year of 1881 some twelve children died in this community during an epidemic of diphtheria and were buried in this graveyard.
