WILLIAM McENTIRE GRAVEYARD This cemetery is located in No. 6 Township, Cleveland County, N.C. and 1 ½ miles northwest of Shelby on east side of First Broad River, one mile west of McBrayer Old Spring on present farm of E. F. McKinney. Owner of Cemetery: E. F. McKinney Approximate number of marked graves: 3 Before 1914: 3 After 1914: None Unmarked graves: 30 Earliest marked grave: William McEntire, d. Feb. 10, 1832 General condition of cemetery: Now in cultivation. Date of survey: January 25, 1939 Worker: Anson G. Melton Prior to 1932 this cemetery contained some 30 or 40 graves, at which time the cemetery was cleared and put in cultivation. P. Cleveland Gardner, Cleveland County Historian, says: "The old home site of William McEntire stood near this graveyard. It was probably this McEntire that sold land to Job Wright in 1812. Also, McCaggie Cornwell, the first Cornwell to come to this section, married a Miss McEntire, who was probably a sister of this William McEntire. McCaggie Cornwell was the father of Ab Cornwell, and grandfather of Amos Cornwell, and great grandfather of our present county commissioner, George L. Cornwell. Also, it is thought that McCaggie Cornwell is either buried in this graveyard or in the old Cornwell Graveyard across the river and behind the home of the late Bill Cornwell."
