CLEVELAND COUNTY, NC - CEMETERIES - Wells Family Cemetery ==================================================================== Contributor's Note: This cemetery is located about 4 miles south of Kings Mountain, North Carolina and about half way between the old Benton Blalock home at the Dixon School crossroads and the old John Wells house. It is on the east side of the tar road and about 1/4 mile across a large master from the road and the home of John Hughes who owns the land. It is in a fenced-in grove of small trees. (Notes are by C. Kenyon Withrow) Robert H. Wells died 23 Sept 1879 aged 69 years. "The troubles that afflicted the just, in numbers many be But yet at length out of them all, the Lord doth set him free." (Note: he was a son of Isaac Wells and a grandson of John Wells) In memory of John Wells who departed this life March the 4, 1819 aged 78 years. "Adieu all both fare and near, Farewell my wife and children dear For my immortal soul is fled, I now lye numbered with the dead." (Note: The John Wells home still stands. From the house and the cemetery the site of the Battle of Kings Mountain can be seen.) Next to John Wells is an unmarked space. Probably it is the grave of John's wife Britty. In memory of John A. Wells, died 19th Oct 1849 aged 8 mo. In memory of Sophia J. Wells who died 1 Sept 1857 aged 10 y and 1 mo. In memory of Pinkney Wells, died 17 Feb 1865 aged 4y 1m 6d. In memory of Dulcinia concert of J. S. Wells, died Sept 8th 1874 (Note: John Simpson Wells was a son of Isaac Wells and Dulcinia was his second wife. CKW - Post Script: the 1850 census shows him as James S. Wells!) M. See. Sansing died Feb 24th 1871, aged 22y 4m 25d In memory of Mary E. Wells died Feb 2nd 1865 aged 1y 22d In memory of Francis M. Wells who died 29 Oct 1864 aged 33 years and 1mo. (Son of Robert H. Wells & Lucinda Gladden, who died of disease during the civil war, 34th Infantry Company H North Carolina Troops). In memory of Ann Wells new departed this life 4 Sept 1857 in her 72 year (Note: Ann was the wife of Isaac Wells and was the daughter of Joseph Gladden) In memory of Isaac Wells who departed this life 1 Sept 1857 in his 75 year Note: there are nine unmarked graves in this cemetery.
