W. M. SPAKE GRAVEYARD This old cemetery is located in No. 6 Township, Cleveland County, N.C. about 200 yards west of the Rock Cut Road and within ¼ mile of the residence of Max Wilson, being situated in the north edge of a small patch of wood, with oaks predominating. To the west lies a cultivated field as well as a field on the eastern and northern portion thereof. The graveyard embraces about ½ acre and is north from Shelby perhaps three miles. May 27, 1828 General condition of cemetery: The cemetery shows some attention, but it is hidden in the wood. There are several cement markers erected in the cemetery bearing inscriptions whatever. Date of survey: Jan. 9, 1939 Worker: Anson G. Melton Inscriptions: Spurlin, Jerry D. Sept. 28, 1890 Aged: 71 years Howel, Elias D. July 28, 1862 Aged: 47 years, 4 months and 4 days He was a consistent member of the Baptist Church for 19 years. Spurlin, Jesse D. April 29, 1888 in his 62nd year Spurlin, Thomas D. July 1851 Aged: 27 years and 29 days Spurlin, Infant son of J. [No other data.] Spurlin, R. A. D. Oct. 10, 1854 Aged: 19 years Tucker, John D. Nov. 2, 1847 in the 76th year of his age Howell, John D. May 27, 1828 Aged: 84 years In the southern part of the cemetery are two graves, marked with plain rocks upon which are indicated the words: "J. C. D. Ju. 13. 1816 and "E. G. died 1835." Spake, W. M.
